Have you ever had a green trampoline in your mouth?! That is how we describe a rubber dam to our younger patients! So much of what we do in dentistry today relies on a chemical bond of materials to your tooth structure. If saliva or blood comes into contact with the material before it sets it can contaminate the area and shorten the lifespan of the filling or crown. The rubber dam isolates teeth and help keeps them dry to provide a longer lasting result. We also work with sma...ll pieces that can be a choking hazard if swallowed. The rubber dam protects you from swallowing anything and also keeps your tongue and cheeks out of the way when we are working! #yycdentist #yycdentistry #calgarydentist #dentist #calgary #yycbuzz #yycbuzz #yychealth #yycliving #sharecalgary #capturecalgary #yycbloggers #yyclocal #yyclife #dentaloffice #yycnow #yyctoday #yyc #yycmom #yycmoms #yycfamily #yyckids #sierradental #airdrie #airdriesmiles #airdrielocal #airdriedentist

Something else we have integrated into our routine is doing a pre procedural mouth rinse that contains hydrogen peroxide in it. The COVID-19 virus is susceptible to oxygen, so rinsing with this for 30 seconds before a procedure will decrease the viral load in someone’s mouth if they happen to be an asymptomatic carrier! @henryscheincalgary @hscheincanada #yycdentist #yycdentistry #calgarydentist #dentist #calgary #yycbuzz #yycbuzz #yychealth #yycliving #sharecalgary #capturecalgary #yycbloggers #yyclocal #yyclife #dentaloffice #yycnow #yyctoday #yyc #yycmom #yycmoms #yycfamily #yyckids #sierradental#yycdentalhygiene #cleanteeth #healthyteeth #hygiene #sierradental

This patient was unhappy with the spaces between their front teeth. Veneer and Bonding options were discussed but bonding on the four front teeth was chosen as the most cost effective and conservative option as no tooth structure had to be removed. Have you ever heard about dental bonding and wondered what it was? This is a case where dental bonding was done on the four front teeth. Dental bonding is another way to describe adding tooth coloured filling material to existing tooth structure. Depending on the case this can be done with or without removing tooth structure. Dear Valued Sierra Patients, We hope this message finds you and your family healthy amongst this pandemic. At Sierra, we have been back open and serving you since mid-May. Since our reopening, we have spared no expense to provide PPE including waterproof gowns, face shields, specialized masks and Surgically Clean Air filtration units. We have revamped our sanitization protocols for high touch areas, worked hard toward a touchless exit, and have kept our waiting room capacity... to a minimum. We have also been providing masks to those who have not brought them along. As per the Alberta guidelines, come August 1st masks will be mandatory in indoor spaces. We have already been practicing this for our team and our patients. We need your help in bringing your own masks when you enter the clinic. Supplies of surgical level masks are getting very low and we are working hard to secure what we can, so if we can count on you to provide your own that would be extremely helpful to us! Again, thanks for your loyalty and support during this time. We look forward to seeing you soon! Your Team at Sierra Dental

Dear Sierra Family, We hope you are continuing to take great care throughout this time of transition and change. In accordance to the guidelines issued by the Alberta Dental Association, the College of Registered Hygienists of Alberta, and based on Sierra's commitment to the highest standards of best practices, we are pleased to announce that in addition to all dental procedures, we will be open effective May 25th for hygiene appointments, limited to hand instrumentation and ...polishing on a case-by-case basis. This may result in your appointment taking more time than before. With these current limitations in dental hygiene services, it is imperative to understand the importance of maintaining regular home-care in order to reduce the amount of bacteria in the mouth. Please see our website or social media pages for our tips on home-care! We have continued to be available to all our of dental patients for necessary emergency treatment, and have worked hard to secure the necessary PPE to keep you and our team safe and comfortable. If you have any questions about treatment or our protocols, please visit sierradental.ca or call us at 403-297-9600. If you are scheduled for an upcoming appointment, please kindly note the following: - We will contact you prior to your appointment to ask a series of pre-treatment screening questions; - We will ask that you visit our website to complete and sign a Patient COVID -19 informed consent form prior to your treatment; and - While we ask that you please bring your own mask, we will be providing you with hand sanitizer upon your arrival, and ask that you follow the marked distancing guidelines on the floor. While much has changed, our unwavering commitment to your health, safety, and the highest standards of excellence in dental and patient care will always stay the same. We are excited about welcoming you back in our offices and we look forward to seeing each and every one of you. Please call our office at (403) 297-9600 if we may be of any assistance in answering your questions and concerns. Wishing you many happy and healthy smiles, ~Your Sierra Team

Sierra Dental 13.07.2020

To our Sierra Dental family! We are open for general dentistry and are so excited to see you all again! Please note we will not accept walk ins, so ensure you call the office if you have any questions.... We are currently able to provide all dental services to COVID 19 screened patients, with the exception of dental hygiene. We hope to be able to provide our patients with dental hygiene services soon and we will continue to update you. If you currently have a dental hygiene appointment booked in the near future, we are rescheduling your appointments out into the future as each day passes. We will now be calling to confirm any appointments that we have booked for dental procedures going forward. If you do not received a confirmation call for an appointment that you previously had booked, please give us a call. We may need to move some patient's appointments around during the coming days and months to ensure we have spacing in our schedules to ensure we work at a capacity that will make our staff and our patients feel comfortable. Some things you can do to help in the process if you are arriving for an appointment during this time. 1) please remain in your car and call us once you have arrived. 2) please ensure we have all of your personal information up to date so we can ensure a touchless insurance and billing process. 3) please ensure you call your payment information prior to the appointment and ensure we have your email on file so we may send you receipts and insurance forms. Please be patient with us as things are not " back to normal" but they are back to a "new normal". If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call us. 403-297-9600 The Sierra Dental Team

Sierra Dental 05.07.2020

We would like to add to the update below. It is unknown when regular dental and hygiene services will commence at this time but we know a lot of you are wondering about prescheduled appointments. We are currently taking this day by day. We have contacted many of you and either spoke to or left messages indicating new appointment times into the future. As of May 1, 2020, if you had an appointment booked, we have rescheduled and reserved you a time out into the future. We wi...ll continue to do this in order to reserve you all appointments. Once things are somewhat back to normal, you may call the office to find out the date that we have reserved for you. We have done this as an effort to minimize your wait time once we reopen. Thank you, Your Sierra Dental Team

Sierra Dental 02.07.2020

Dear Sierra Community, An update from our team, The ADAC has broadened the scope of the treatment we can now perform to emergency and urgent care. Please call our office if you have any soreness, sensitivity or you feel you require treatment so we can assess.... We are also now seeing our Orthodontic patients. Please give us a call 8-3 Monday to Friday, if you had an appointment cancelled within the last few months and we can get you back on track. As the days go by, we expect to receive more information from the ADAC as well as guidelines around when we can provide routine treatment such as hygiene and exams; rest assured, we will be updating you. We continue to be available via phone and email to answer any clinical or procedural questions you may have, and we look forward seeing you soon. Wishing you and your families many happy and healthy smiles, The Sierra Dental Team

We are getting the second wave of our team ready to see you! We are now able to take care of your emergency, urgent and orthodontic dental needs. We are here for you. Please call us if you need anything!

Sierra Dental 21.06.2020

To our valued patients, We are beyond ready to get back to work and seeing everyone that we have missed so much! We hope this message finds you in good health, good spirits and as excited as we are to get back into our regular routines. Much has happened since the last time we saw you. We are still coming to grips with the COVID -19 pandemic and the events triggered by it. Everyone on the planet has been affected by it, and to date there has been a lot of uncertainty because ...it has been unprecedented. We wanted to update you on our office, its measured re-opening, and steps we are taking to ensure we do everything possible to keep our patients and our team healthy. After many weeks of waiting we have finally received word from Premier that Alberta will start opening certain businesses and services in the near future. This is very exciting news for us, as we hope to get back to taking care of your oral health sooner rather than later. In Jason Kenneys announcement, he has allowed dental clinics to open starting May 4th, 2020. This is the first step towards having the clinic actually open for non-emergency service. We now await direction from our governing body the Alberta Dental Association and College to provide us the guidelines necessary to maintain the safety and health of our patients and team members. They did send an email last night stating that they are holding the suspension of non emergency services until May 14th. Once we have their direction, we will know more about the exact date we will open the clinic again and more about the scope of treatment that we will be allowed practice in our clinics. Once we have that information, and it should arrive soon, we will send out another notification informing you of how we will proceed to get you your next appointment. We assure you that we are committed to getting back to serving you and your families as soon as possible and we are committed to doing it in a way that maintains the health and safety of our patients and team members. Therefore, when we re-open you can expect to see some changes in the appointment experience. Such as rigorous scheduling protocols and office measures to ensure your safety and well-being. We ask for your patience in the process. We had to cancel many appointments, and we know that there is a strong desire for you to get your treatment back on track as soon as possible. We will eventually, but it will not be as efficient as we are used to in our office. This benefits everyone in the long run. You may notice that we will have to be very stringent in our process and procedures, again we ask for your patience and trust to look out for your best interest as well as the many patients we serve. Wishing you and your families continued health, Sierra Dental

You know brushing twice a day is important. But do you floss? And, no, twice a month doesnt count. Heres why you shouldnt write off this essential step. Plaque acts quickly. Skipping a few days allows bacteria the perfect amount of time to solidify. Plaque starts to harden within hours of eating, and once 48 hours have passed, the cavity-causing substance will be firmly stuck to your teeth, best removed by a professional cleaning.... Your gums will stop bleeding. Dont want to floss because it leaves the thread bloody? Although it may seem counterintuitive, flossing actually reduces the occurrence of bleeding gums. If you remove bacteria from the gum line, your body wont send blood cells to the area to fight the infection. Happy gums and happy you! The rest of your body will be healthier. Heart disease, stroke, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and even respiratory disease have all been linked to gum disease. By maintaining your gum health, youll help cut down your risk of these serious conditions or improve your condition, if youre already affected. Your teeth will stay strong. Whats worse than getting a cavity? Getting a cavity in between two teeth. Remove bacterial buildup in those hard-to-reach areas, and youll save yourself from going under the drill.

Lest We Forget On 13 May 1915 the Canadian Army Dental Corps (CADC) was formed as a separate corps within the Canadian Army. Canadian dental officers were attached to the field ambulances and did wonders in the forward area, including even the provision of gold plates. A British Army consultant, Sir Cuthbert Wallace, would later state in 1918 that, the Canadians had a very perfect dental organization and suggested that the British service copy the Canadian model which enabled them to provide advanced treatment in the forward areas. - repost from The Canadian Dental Association. cda-adc.ca
