Today we were thrilled to be part of the 2020 Manning Award presentation to O'Brien Farm Foundation for their work in protecting the O’Brien Farm’s 31 acres of land and in restoring Thimble Cottage into a multi-use programming space! The Manning Awards for Excellence in the Public Presentation of Historic Places was created in 1993 by the Historic Sites Association of Newfoundland and Labrador to recognize and celebrate the work of individuals, communities, and organizations... in preserving and presenting Newfoundland and Labrador’s history and heritage. The O’Brien Farm Foundation continues to support our local heritage by developing a large Learning Centre to launch agricultural incubator programs to educate young farmers aiming to connect the current/next generation to the second wave Irish-Newfoundland immigration in the early 1800s. Way to go O’Brien Farm Foundation! We are so proud to be working in a community with such passionate advocates of our local culture and heritage!
Parks Canada is reminding visitors that trails at Cape Spear Lighthouse and Signal Hill National Historic Sites will remain open and accessible until the seasonal closure later in the fall. As part of the shoulder season adjustment at these sites, all trails are now designated two-way direction including the North Head Trail at Signal Hill. Please remember to Stop, Look and Go and respect all posted signs. Keep a safe #PhysicalDistance of two metres apart at all times. If physical distancing is not possible on narrow staircases and paths, trail users are asked to yield to other users until the way is clear. #ParksSmart #TogetherApart

While enjoying our green spaces at Signal Hill and Cape Spear Lighthouse National Historic Sites, we need your help to keep these places healthy for generations to come! Respect other visitors and nature by staying on pre-existing pathways and trails. Let others know of your intention to pass on pathways or trails, so that you can maintain a 2-metre distance.
