Attention hunters and anglers! The Ontario Government recently announced a ban on Crown Land camping and also a ban on open fires across most of Ontario. But... in addition to these two notices, Crown Land users have more questions as we get closer to spring hunting and fishing opening dates. With a great deal of speculation and not a lot of clear messaging from various government sources during this unpredictable time we are in, the Northwestern Ont Sportsmen’s Alliance (NOSA) has reached out to OMNRF to try to get answers to some of the more common questions we all have right now as we plan outdoor activities. OMNRF quickly responded with the following. Please read the answers carefully. Hopefully this helps. If you have additional questions about various Crown Land restrictions, let us know and we’ll try to get updates from OMNRF. Thank you and stay safe! Q: Will people be fined by CO’s for using Crown land boat launch or lake access sites? A: Boat launches on Crown land are currently open. In addition, we are aware that some municipal and private boat launches have been closed. Outdoor users are advised to check for any local restrictions. Q: Will people be fined for joining each other when hunting and fishing together (if for example they are not from same household, they get in a vehicle and drive to a lake to go fishing together for the day?) A: When outdoors, anglers and hunters are advised to: -Check for local restrictions on outdoor areas -Practice physical distancing - stay 2 metres from other people -Do not gather in groups while fishing, hunting, and hiking -People enjoying the outdoors are required to adhere to the Emergency Orders to help stop the spread of COVID-19, which includes restrictions on social gatherings of more than 5 people. More information can be found at: https://www.ontario.ca/page/emergency-information -Conservation Officers are designated to enforce Emergency Orders issued under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act (EMCPA).
