Hi folks, Our first in-person Scout meetings in over six months begin this evening. Your Scouters are all very excited, but also a little apprehensive. We have new rules and regulations that we must follow now on top of the usual ones that we have always followed. Please be patient with us as we work our way through them. 1. We will be asking everyone to complete a self-assessment screening checklist. That includes not only our Scouting youth but other parents and family ...members who are planning on staying. 2. For the time being, all of our meetings will be outdoors, as it has been determined that outdoor activities are less likely to cause the spread of Covid. so everyone must dress appropriately. Wear a hat! 3. Everyone must have a mask with them at all times. There may be times when youth can take it off, but they must have it in a pocket at all times. 4. Attendance must be taken. We need everyone’s name and phone number. If you do not see someone taking attendance, please ask. 5. Physical distancing (except for your family bubble) 6. Having a small bottle of hand sanitizer is highly recommended 7. A water bottle is recommended as youth will not have access to water in the church 8. Go to the bathroom before you leave home 9. A small pack to carry these items and others mentioned by the Scouters 10. Ask your Scouter what the procedures are for drop-off and pick-up If you have any questions contact your section Scouter, post a question on our section Facebook pages or contact Scouter Bill at [email protected] or 506-647-3377. WELCOME BACK TO SCOUTING https://www.scouts.ca/join/register.html Our last in-person Beaver, Cub and Scout meetings happened in March. Since then, we have only been able to meet virtually. But the staff at National have not been idle. First of all, the 2019-2020 Scouting year has been extended from August 31 to December 31 at no additional charge. So all Scouting youth who were members when Covid restrictions began are still Scouting members. Returning members are asked... to signal their intention to return by going to the Sign-up page, https://www.scouts.ca/join/register.html. You must take this step in order to re-activate your membership and show up on our official group lists. We are even happily accepting new members, with a Spectacular Super-Special Free Trial that lasts all the way until December 31. So if your child is new to Scouting and wants to give it a try, please contact us. . National Office has devised a Back to Scouting plan, which involves a step-by-step lifting of restrictions and controls using a number of Scenarios. March saw us entering what we are now calling Scenario 1, virtual Scouting only. But with September comes Scenario 2. Outdoor in-person meetings will become standard with virtual meetings as needed. Each section will limit itself to 16 youth per meeting, divided into two patrols of 8. Each patrol will be doing its activities separately from the other patrols. Physical distancing will be observed, but the youth within a patrol can play games together and use the same equipment. Eventually, we will be entering Scenario 3, 4 and even Scenario 5, which is a removal of all Covid restrictions. We will be holding our first Outdoor meeting on Wednesday September 23. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to post a question on our Facebook Pages or e-mail me at [email protected] or call me at 506-647-3377. Or contact your section Scouter. See more
I like this... I think sometimes we lose site of the simple goals... Borrowed this from 1st Facebook Scout Group. Food for thought: DAD SCOUT LETTER... Someone asked me - Why do you spend money and time for your kids to be in scouts, do activities and go camping?- MY ANSWER WAS: Well, I have a confession to make, I don't pay and I give my time for my kids to wear a uniform and attend camps. Do you know what I'm investing for? For my children to learn to be disciplined For my children to learn how to take care of their body and mind To appreciate and value nature For my kids to learn how to work with others and be good teammates. To develop their creativity. For my kids to learn how to deal with disappointment when they don't get what they expected and discover that the key is to work harder. So they learn to achieve their goals. So my kids understand that it takes hours and hours of hard work and training to get results, and that success doesn't happen overnight. For the opportunity, my kids will have to make friendships for life. So my kids are learning and not in front of the TV. For those moments when my kids come back so tired, they just want to get to rest and don't think or have time to walk lazy or bad things. For all the teachings this great movement gives them: responsibility, delivery, commitment, civility, respect, love of nature, coexistence, etc, etc.". I could go on, but to be brief; I don't pay for sculpture classes, because even their Scouters volunteer, they don't receive a euro for providing their time, creativity and knowledge, let alone for their love and patience. Thank you for the opportunities offered by the scout movement to develop attributes and skills that will be very useful throughout your life and give you the opportunity to value life, to BUILD A BETTER WORLD See more

Tonight, we learned how to make ice cream. Here is the recipe CAMP ICE CREAM One 1-qt zip-loc style storage bag One zip-loc style sandwich bag 4c crushed ice... c coarse or rock salt c milk c whipping cream 2 tbsp sugar tsp vanilla Put ice and salt in the larger bag. Put the other ingredients in the sandwich bag, squeeze out most of the air and seal. Put the sandwich bag into the larger bag with the ice and salt, squeeze out most of the air and seal. Squeeze and shake the bag for ten minutes or until the ice cream has become firm. Wear gloves! The ice will get cold enough to cause frostbite. Make sure that there is no salt around the mouth of the inner bag, open it, add your favourite topping and enjoy. See more

All Scouting Families should have received a letter from Scouts Canada with links to documents outlining how Scouts Canada is proposing for us to run our in-person meetings once they resume. Please read the letter and accompanying linked documents and click on the "Share Your Feedback" link at the bottom of the letter to let Scouts Canada know what you think. This is our chance to have some input on the way forward for Scouts Canada in the coming months. We hope you will take the time to read the material and share your feedback. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Scouter Bill at [email protected] or at 506-647-3377.
Ice Cream Cone S'Mores! Make S'Mores in your oven or on the barbecue, using an ice cream cone, mini-marshmallows, chocolate chips and other treats like peanut butter or nutella or banana slices. Butter the insides of the cone with peanut butter if you wish. Fill with your favorite toppings, I used chocolate chips and mini marshmallows. Wrap each cone tightly with foil.... Oven directions: Bake at 350 for 10-15 minutes. Grill directions: Place on a heated grill for 5-10 minutes, turning occasionally. Campfire directions: Heat the foil-wrapped cones over a campfire See more

Scouting in the age of Covid-19. A newly-released update on how Scouts Canada will proceed in the wake of Covid-19 https://www.scouts.ca//covid/covid-19-scouting-update.html
In spite of physical distancing, our Scouting youth are still active. We are holding on-line meetings using Zoom. And our young people are using their time to work on badges and to learn how to do new things around the house.
Build a city! Patterns and templates that you can use to make small buildings and towns.
Interesting Scout Fact! Today is St. George's Day. St. George is the Patron Saint of Scouting. Baden-Powell chose St. George as patron saint because he is a model of determination, courage and honour.
Really interesting NFB film about Wartime Housing, which is found in almost all Canadian cities. Scouting connection occurs at 14:30 when we see one of the roles taken on by Scouts during World War II.
I just found a good link to Scouting at Home activities. There is even a Scouting at Home e-mail newsletter that you can subscribe to. Please give it a look. https://www.scouts.ca/progra/scouting-at-home/overview.html
