Make the season bright! No matter how you celebrate the holidays this year, we hope it’s filled with the warmth, laughter and the love of family and friends.
Saving for a child’s education is one of the most important financial decisions a parent makes and, with respect for your privacy, I would like to provide you with the enclosed written information about RESPs from Knowledge First Financial. An RESP is the best way to save for post-secondary education. The income your savings earn remain tax free while in your plan and goes directly to your child’s education assistance payments; on a student’s income, there will be little or n...o tax to pay. Plus, you’ll receive the government education grants to help your savings grow faster. Knowledge First Financial is one of the few RESP providers who provides access to all federal and provincial education-related grant programs. Here is a summary of some of the grants that may be available to you. Canada Education Savings Grant (CESG) Through the Canada Education Savings Grant, the Government of Canada could add an extra 20% on the first $2,500 that you contribute annually to each child’s RESP. This may be enhanced by an extra 10% or 20% of the first $500 you contribute each year, depending on your family income. The lifetime maximum available is $7,200 per child. Canada Learning Bond (CLB) Families that qualify for the National Child Benefit Supplement are eligible for the Canada Learning Bond. The Government of Canada will give qualified children an initial $500 RESP grant, followed by $100 grants every year until your child turns 15, providing up to $2,000 for post-secondary education.
