Bacteria that live in your mouth is found in nearly every organ in the body. If you have bleeding gums, that’s an imbalance between oral microbes and your immune system. This inflammation is now implicated throughout the body and in many cases they find oral bacteria as the culprit. That’s why you need to pay close attention to your oral health.... Researchers from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland essentially traced the passage of bacteria in the mouth to the fluid surrounded the kneecap, called synovial fluid. By analyzing the DNA of the bacteria, the researchers could determine that the progeny of the gum bacteria entered into the bloodstream and settled in the synovial fluid, which was in a weakened state as a result of arthritis. The small study group of only 36 patients, none with advanced periodontitis. Of these patients, five had gum bacteria in their synovial fluid. Most convincing, though, was the fact that for two of the patients, the bacteria found in the mouth and in the synovial fluid were genetically nearly identical, providing smoking-gun evidence of bacteria relocating. Do not wait, make sure you and your family don’t miss your annual checkup. ‘Healthy Mouth = Healthy Body! *** 905.857.3434 #SimonaDentalStudio #DrChahal #BoltonDentist #DentistNearMe #dentistry #torontodentist #vaughandentist #arthritis See more

Dental stress has manifested itself in the increase of bruxism (grinding) and clenching. As a result, there is an increase in fractured teeth, broken restorations, TMD issues, headaches, and neck and shoulder problems. We’re also seeing an increase in people with gum conditions getting worse along with an increase in decay rates. The combination of not coming into the office due to the pandemic, poor eating habits, and frequent mouth breathing due to masks adds to the negati...ve impacts of stress on the body. *** 905.857.3434 #SimonaDentalStudio #DrChahal #BoltonDentist #DentistNearMe #dentistry #torontodentist #vaughandentist #bruxism See more

#WorldCancerDay Just as periodontal health can affect your overall health, certain health conditions and their treatments can affect your periodontal health. Cancer therapy is one example. Oral complications from radiation, bone marrow transplantation or chemotherapy may include: Inflamed gums, mouth ulcers and infection Dry mouth... Difficulty speaking, chewing and swallowing Dental decay or erosion of the tooth enamel and root Loss of taste sensation Jaw stiffness Delayed healing If at all possible, an oral evaluation by a periodontist or knowledgeable dental professional should be obtained prior to beginning your cancer treatment. Identifying and correcting a potential oral problem may ease discomfort so it does not intensify or interfere with your cancer treatment. *** 905.857.3434 #SimonaDentalStudio #DrChahal #BoltonDentist #DentistNearMe #dentistry #torontodentist #vaughandentist #dental #cancer See more

It’s been well-documented during the pandemic that people have suffered from poorer sleep quality as a result of heightened anxiety and depression. That tends to correspond with more intense teeth grinding and jaw clenching, a phenomenon referred to as bruxism The consequences of bruxism can include mild to severe headaches, fracturing or breaking a tooth or a tooth filling. While stress and anxiety are clearly contributing to the orofacial pain many people are experiencing..., delayed dental visits could also be contributing to the problem. To avoid cracks in your teeth, lose caps and additional jaw pain, call us and schedule a check up. We will be able to determine the cause of your bruxism, and come up with perfect treatment for you! *** 905.857.3434 #SimonaDentalStudio #DrChahal #BoltonDentist #DentistNearMe #dentistry #torontodentist #vaughandentist #dental #covidclench See more

GERD Awareness Week Visit a dental hygienist for regular professional cleaning and evaluation/treatment for tooth erosion. Brush twice a day using a toothpaste for dentin sensi tivity. Use a low abrasive fluoridated toothpaste and a soft toothbrush. Toothpastes containing baking soda are low in abrasion and will aid in neutralizing acids. Do not brush after being exposed to acid, whether from acid reflux or food and beverages. Because acid s...oftens the tooth’s surface, brushing will cause more enamel loss. Wait 30 minutes until the natural flow of saliva washes away and neutralizes the acids. After reflux episodes, rinse with water or use a sugarfree antacid and let it dissolve in the mouth. Avoid mint flavoured products, since they relax the valve that can release the backward flow of stomach acid. - Adopt lifestyle changes, e.g., avoid alcohol and nicotine, lose excess weight. Smoking decreases the esophageal sphincter’s ability to function properly. Eat smaller more frequent meals; eating a lot of food at one time increases the amount of acid needed to digest it. Avoid food that triggers heartburn, e.g., coffee, fatty and spicy food, chocolate. Refrain from eating three hours before bedtime; an empty stomach decreases acid production. Elevate the head of the bed to relieve reflux symptoms when lying down. Maintain good posture; standing straight and sitting upright helps food and acid pass through the stomach instead of backing up into the esophagus. Avoid clothes that fit tightly around the waist and bend from the knees to reduce pressure on the abdomen. See a physician if symptoms are recurrent or extend beyond two weeks. *** 905.857.3434 #SimonaDentalStudio #DrChahal #BoltonDentist #DentistNearMe #dentistry #torontodentist #happy See more

#InternationalMensDay Why oral health is important for men Men are less likely than women to seek preventive dental care and may neglect their oral health for years Evidence suggests a connection between gum disease and cardiovascular disease, which can increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes. Because of this risk, you should be especially vigilant for signs of periodontal (gum) disease such as red, swollen, tender or bleeding gums, persistent bad breath or loose teet...h. These easy tips can help improve your dental health: Brush your teeth with fluoride toothpaste for two to three minutes at least twice daily. Choosing a toothpaste with fluoride can reduce tooth decay by as much as 40%. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and brush properly by positioning the brush at a 45-degree angle where your gums and teeth meet. Replace your toothbrush every three months or after you’ve been sick. Floss daily, using the proper technique. Gently insert floss between teeth using a back-and-forth motion. Curve the floss into a C-shape against one tooth and then the other. Visit the dentist at least once a year for cleanings and exams. #MensDay #MensMentalHealthMonth *** 905.857.3434 #SimonaDentalStudio #DrChahal #BoltonDentist #DentistNearMe #dentistry #torontodentist #vaughandentist

Good dental care is important for everyone, but especially for people with kidney disease. What might be a minor infection for a healthy person could be major problem for someone with kidney disease. Inflammation means in flames, which makes sense because an inflamed area can be red, hot and swollen. Dental cavities and gum diseases are chronic bacterial infections. In addition to causing pain, difficulty eating, and mouth odors, dental cavities and gum infections can co...ntribute to other problems by fueling harmful chronic inflammation. Also, germs that cause cavities and gum disease don’t stay put and may spread throughout the body, especially if your immune system is weak. Infections can be serious, even resulting in hospitalizations. Be sure to tell your dentist you have kidney disease, are on dialysis or are a kidney transplant recipient. To help avoid any serious dental issues, preventing and quickly treating infections is essential! *** 905.857.3434 #SimonaDentalStudio #DrChahal #BoltonDentist #DentistNearMe #dentistry #torontodentist #vaughandentist
