Remember live music? What does it mean to you? What would it mean to you now? Wish you could ask the family I sang for tonight. Just performed a lovely set in the driveway of an #intimate audience with Geoff Hlibka (guitar). It’s been too long. My heart is full. So happy to be part of the Curbside Concerts Canada roster of artists bringing live music safely to your doorstep. Here’s more info about Curbside Concerts and how they’re supporting local #musicians. www.curbsideconc...erts.ca www.instagram.com/curbsideconcertscanada/ Curbside Concerts Canada . . . . . #curbsideconcertsto #homedelivery #livemusic #outdoorgigging #hotmusiccoldnight See more

On November 27 I always take stock. Today marks 4 years since a freak car accident I was lucky to walk away from. That was the day I resolved to modify the #lens through which I saw my purpose. Almost 2 years later I released my all-original album #SettlingUp into the world, with the final song Take Us Home written as a reflection on the accident. The whole album is available everywhere. Hope you feel something when you listen! #lifelessonslearnedthehardway #gratitude #purpose #dowhatyoulove #meaning #originalmusic #jazzsinger #november27

Writing for my next albumbut lots of nurturing energy being invested into me first, especially over the last several weeks. Focusing on what brings me peace, pride and fulfillment is bringing me back to centre after big changes. In that headspace, practicing piano has been a different experience for me than usual. I heeded to the call of #Chopin. Nocturne in E- was one of my audition pieces for York University’s Music Program years ago, before I knew I would ultimately becom...e a vocalist. Playing it again was like a hug from a long lost best friend. Seems the heart knows what it needs. My execution is far from perfect (damper pedal also in dire need of de-squeaking), but I loved the memory my hands still had for the piece after barely touching it since my audition. I reflected on my younger self who, after thorough analysis of every imperfection every intention unrealized would slink back into her practice room to hide and say not good enough. The most productive practice I ever did as an adult was train myself to stop listening to that voice in my head that served to block enjoyment, creativity, and the truly constructive analysis that drives one forward instead of backward. I was never afraid of hard work. The most difficult practice was being my own cheerleader. As a teacher, I make it a priority to shine light on the unique positives and growth before addressing areas to improve. Perfection (whatever that is) can be achieved with practice. But the soul needs nurturing and encouragement to express itself freely and passionately, so it dances with the inner critic in a balanced way. Souls are imperfect - and perfectly so. It is the soul of any artist that I listen for. It is the essence of individuality. If you listen carefully you can hear their feelings, their experiences, their take on the world, their emotional depth. Putting my musical brain to work and my soul is energized in many ways these days.
