IT'S GIFT SEASON- LESSONS OR NEW EQUIPMENT? Hello Golfers, ... The first thing Tiger Woods did after winning the 1997 Masters was to completely overhaul his golf swing the very next day. Many scratch golfers, low single figure handicappers, and especially elite golfers have golf lessons all the time. Then we have the mid-high handicappers who never seem to book a golf lesson. Yet many of these same players would have no qualms about spending $650 on a brand new driver or more for a set of irons. For players who fall into the latter category, I have a fairly reasonable explanation of why: There's a fear of going for a golf lesson only to have their swing completely dismantled and be left unsure whether or not they should even be playing the game. A shiny new driver or putter offers a glimmer of hope. And there will inevitably be a placebo effect. But over time the same technical problems will prevent any significant improvement. So here's my advice: Go buy that new driver or putter but have lessons at the same time or even better, first. Nothing will make you feel worse than spending money on equipment and then realizing your performance has not improved. Many times it is also about marrying the equipment to a swing. Boy, do I see mayor disconnects here all the time. Most of my students buy new clubs after spending a few months with me. A faster, more precise golf swing qualifies for sportier clubs. Sportier clubs are more fun. They buy new clubs with enthusiasm and confidence because they know how all parts of the game, the body, and equipment, can optimally work together. Their swings have not been dismantled, they've just been optimized. The fear of shots over water is gone and there's not just hope, there are faith and belief. If you want to experience those feelings, see me at Simplex Sportszone in Kelowna this winter or take advantage of online coaching. You can confidently trust that online coaching creates great results as well. The end of this year calls for some positive change of habit, doesn't it? HOW TO IMPRESS YOUR PLAYING PARTNERS WITHOUT TRAINING Hello Golfers, Let’s be honest, a 250 to 300-yard tee shot on a deserted hole all by yourself is pretty nice. Being able to do that in front of random playing partners on the first hole - most would sell their grandma to experience that amazing feeling just once. Let me tell you this in all honesty: To pull off monster drives under pressure, selling grandma isn’t enough. It takes blood, sweat and focused training on a Trac...Continue reading
