Seniors are a growing segment of our population - the numbers suggest BC will be home to 1 million people aged 65+ by 2020. Yet in a time of an increasing population, there is a continued decrease in home support service and adult day programs..." This report also addresses the housing and transportation challenges that restrict independence and and contribute to poor health outcomes for seniors. ... We believe the advocacy and private sector can work together to model standards and access to care - we have to do better! https://www.bclocalnews.com//office-of-b-c-seniors-advoca/

Keep on moving. As we age, playing sports, running and going to the gym gets more and more difficult. The one thing that we can all strive to do regardless of age is continue walking. http://www.theprovince.com/walking+medicine+he//story.html
With the cost of living and rents rising along with declining vacancies, the option for our elders is becoming more clear to age in place. This means that the paradigm shift in healthcare will need to continue to move toward catering to our seniors with services delivered directly to them; modifying their residences and supporting them and helping them remain at home safely and comfortably. Building more facilities to house these seniors costs taxpayers and consumers alike too much and does not appear to be the wisest way to go. http://www.cbc.ca//seniors-homes-rent-vacancy-rates-1.3636
Temporary Foreign Nannies and Caregivers already in Canada in between jobs are scared about their future. We are hearing about how immigration is tightening up and how it is becoming increasingly difficult to process Temporary Foreign Workers from abroad. This may be justified if there are in fact ample workers already here in Canada. The big question is what is going to happen to the Temporary Foreign Workers who are already here who have lost their jobs to a wide variety ...of understandable reasons? With extreme delays in processing times and significant efforts required for advertising etc., many workers already in Canada are falling out of status. Is the plan to tell all of these workers that they need to leave Canada? Will they be deported? Should we not make different processing procedures for workers already on Canadian soil? After all, they did get through immigration to get here. See more

Delays in the Foreign Worker Caregiver Program are a real concern for many families. If you are experiencing issues in obtaining an LMIA or processing work permits for a nanny or caregiver you are not alone. http://www.vancouversun.com//Caregive/11031960/story.html
A big thank you should go out to Dr. Sloan and all the other physicians and team members that make up the fantastic efforts of "Home Vive" http://www.vancourier.com//urban-senior-a-vancouver-doctor
