As we move closer to Christmas please try to remember those who will possibly not be remembered this holiday season. There are actually people still sleeping out in this cold in our city. People relying on the food banks and the many social programs to get by. They arent even thinking of Christmas......they are just trying to get by. There are many small things we can do to help out. When you are at the grocery store pick up a case of cans. Things like Kraft dinner, sou...p, beans and prepared pasta and sauce can be bought for less than $10.00./ a case. When your at the Dollar store pick up some of the wool gloves, warm hats, pocket warmers, and wool socks. Double whammy skip the wrapping paper, wrap your presents in Newspaper and spend the $ money on some wool gloves. The shelters win, the landfills win and the comfort and smiles from those receiving the simple pair of gloves is immeasurable. Buy a couple of $5.00 McDonaIds or Timmies cards to give out when you see someone who can clearly can use them! Hosting a Christmas party request your guests bring some canned goods instead of gifts or food for the party! If you have nothing physically to give. Give a smile a nod and a cheery word. They cost nothing but leave a large and lasting impact. Thanks friends and may we always remember people need more presence and less presents. See more

I can really say I enjoyed myself at Westview Drop In tonight. I always try to find ways to engage the ladies that come in. I want them to stick around for the night! There is nothing like fellowship to help us get by. To forget about our lives, have some good hot food, share some laughs and work through our problems together. The longer they stay the much better they appear when leaving. That being said it is really hard to get them to stay. They like to get food to t...ake out. Rummage thru the little thrift store, grab some toiletries and run out the door. I try to encourage them with colouring. Yes colouring! Have you ever tried it as an adult? So soothing and calm you get so relaxed and before you know its two hours gone like that (picture me snapping my fingers)! Tonight I got Gingerbread People, plus gingerbread ornaments, candy of all kinds and royal icing so they could decorate cookies. I was really surprised at the number of girls who took off their coats, rolled up their sleeves and got busy!!!! We were able to sit around and talk about our fondest Christmas memories and our favourite treats as kids. Every single woman walked out of there with huge smiles and some of them expressed to me it was the longest they had ever stayed. These are some of the activities I sponsor with my earnings from Simply Linen, a clothing business I am involved in). When people are free to be open and express, healing happens!Blessed everyday, I am! Just of few of tonights cookies. This is a very worthwhile cause that partners an invitation to keep the scarf as well as information on HIV/Aids (which by the way is on the rise again). This information and invitation are attached to each scarf. Then in turn the scarves are wrapped around trees during Nov/Dec. People who need ...a warm scarf can help themselves to one. It sure would be wonderful to see our city festooned with red scarves. We are always looking for any red scarves. As well as knitters and crocheters who could needle and hook a few up.
