Happy Canada Day Everyone!

Meet our volunteer bug catcher. Weve been watching this little Wren scurry around the farm picking up all the bugs it can find for its young ones (If you look real close you can see a little baby bird mouth in the bird house). The best thing about this is, as you can see in the second pick, they seem to fancy going after the same caterpillars that like to eat the strawberry flowers and leaves. I stood here for roughly 15 minutes taking photos and probably saw the wren catch a insect every 3 mins or so. Amazing little birds to have on the farm.

Simpson Eco Farms 21.02.2020

Whos ready for strawberries!? The pickn has begun!! (Small quantities right now until we get into full production)

Simpson Eco Farms 01.02.2020

How do we organically deal with bugs on the strawberries? Video below Yes, we check over 11,000 plants for bugs, either once or twice a week at the beginning of the season. While a lot of tedious work, its worth it in the long run. It means you get a healthy berry grown without pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, or soil fumigants, and in turn, we get to do what we love. And while we do love farming, what we love even more is the idea of people eating food that will beneficially add to their health, not take away from it. Now, to the smooshing!!

Simpson Eco Farms 15.01.2020

Were not far away now from strawberry season!!!! (Pic from today) At this rate we think it might be before July 1st. But well keep yall posted

We have a pair of cedar waxwings that seem to have made a nest at the top of our red maple. I couldnt get a good shot with the lens on the camera so its a whole lotta cropping and low image quality, but, were just happy to have seen them for the first time. Has anyone else seen them in your neck of the woods?

We got the last of the tilling done just before the rain came the other day. Our pea netting is up, the strawberries have been planted and now we are prepping an area for 2# 130ft lavender beds. 3rd and 4th pic is a photoshop of what it will hopefully look like when filled out. Were not 100% sure if we should go all purple lavender or purple and white lavender rows... What does everyone else think? Purple and white or all purple? Or maybe we should plan for alternating rows of purple then white? Thoughts?

Bio Fish is an organic fertilizer we use in the vegetable beds and the strawberry system. As soon as we experimented with the berry system it was amazing. The sweetness improved fairly dramatically. Our only concern; its thick and it reeks. Not as bad smelling as other fish fertilizers, but not much better. They also have an organic berry fertilizer we will be experimenting with in the future. Depending on how it fairs in our irrigation system, we can see this product being a staple in our fertilizer program for years to come- we are that happy with it. http://www.biofert.ca//liquid-fertilize/biofish-3-1-2.html

Simpson Eco Farms 01.11.2019

If anyone is curious what products we use here on the farm, over the next little bit we will upload pics and certificates of fertilizers/ soil amendments we use to grow all those fruits and veggies. These posts may not be for everyone, its mostly technical stuff, but for those who want transparency, this is for you. Below is a certified organic fertilizer we used in the vegetable beds last year, its a combination of organic turkey litter and organic mushroom compost.

It looks like we have finally found a clear compostable/ biodegradable bag we can use for our produce!! https://www.cagreen.ca/0-456

A professor at Cornell University influences his students to eat pesticide right form the can, claiming it to be safe. Once one student eats it, the rest follow. This is the level of propaganda taught at Universities now- Eating pesticide is safe. Not only is this illegal, the ethical and moral implications of this is beyond measure. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hzud-R_BRz0
