In Ontario there is no way around it when purchasing real estate, and Toronto has doubled their one time purchase tax, with a goal of keeping yearly property taxes lower. There are programs offered by the government to make purchasing your first home a bit less of a financial burde...n. This rebate can be applied for upto 1.5years after purchasing the property. If I am a first time home buyer, how much land transfer tax do I owe? It is a percentage of the purchase price of the home. There is no land transfer tax payable by qualifying firsttime purchasers on the first $368,000 of the value of the consideration for eligible homes. Firsttime purchasers of homes greater than $368,000 would receive a maximum refund of $4,000 The refund will be reduced if one (or more) of the purchasers is not a firsttime homebuyer.
