I find that every year I make a ton of goals that I never really follow through with. For 2021, I am hoping to take it easy and find joy in the simple things. 2020 was difficult for most of us, yet throughout all of the chaos most of us learned at least one thing we can carry into 2021.

I originally made this for Canada 150, but I’m just going to repost it every year because we resist every. fucking. day. I made this in honour of all my relatio...ns who resist by existing; who survive and thrive; who speak the truth through words, art, action, and love; who strive to learn their languages & connect with the land; who will continue thriving for longer than the next 153 years because we've already survived genocide, assimilation and erasure; who are hardened by our daily struggles but kept soft by the resilience of our youth; who remain hopeful as we lift each other up and stand together in solidarity; who centre the voices that need to be centred. We know we have been here longer than 153 years and we will always be here. We do not celebrate Kkkanada. We celebrate Indigenous excellence. See more
Dear Minister Morneau and Governor Macklem, I am writing you today to express my support for including Sergeant Tommy Prince on the new $5 note. Sergeant Tommy Prince was a great Indigenous Canadian who embodied duty, courage, bravery, and patriotism. After joining the Canadian Army at age 24, Sergeant Prince became a founding member of the elite 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion and the Devil’s Brigade during the Second World War before going on to contribute to the stalwart... defence of Hill 677 in the Battle of Kapyong during the Korean War. Sergeant Prince’s eleven medals make him the most decorated Indigenous war veteran in Canada. Sergeant Tommy Prince’s sacrifices in World War Two and Korea ensured that other nations and their peoples would be safe from despotism, that they would have the right to self-determination, and to all the freedoms that democracy provides. And he wasn’t alone, over 15,000 Indigenous Canadians fought in World War Two and Korea for a country they couldn’t even vote in. They experienced racism from the federal government as Indigenous war veterans were denied many of the benefits other veterans received. Sergeant Prince, who was called to Buckingham Palace to receive medals from King George VI, died alone and homeless at a Salvation Army shelter in 1977. It is the responsibility of every Canadian to understand the injustices of the past and to resolve their spirit to ensure they are remedied in order to establish a mutually respectful relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. Reconciliation is about understanding and building relationships. Indigenous Canadians, like Sergeant Prince, came back from war with the self-confidence and desire to speak for themselves and to make changes. They were prepared to reconcile with Canada and move forward on the path of reconciliation, but Canada was not. Now is the time to make a statement in support of reconciliation. We ask you to join us in supporting Sergeant Tommy Prince, Canadian war hero, for inclusion on the $5 bill. Sincerely, See more

So obsessed with our new logo! Thank you @mstoneyart!
Thank you all so much for the support lately! Earlier this year I started this little business in hopes to break the misconception of free education for all Indigenous people and save early for our daughters educations. Little did I know this little business took off and I have been pretty busy since. I am SOO happy to announce we were able to put away some money for their education this year. My page will consist of us selling frybread, Babe’s Honey & Silk Road Tea. M...y other passion is supporting other local businesses especially Indigenous entrepreneurs. Currently, I am working with an Indigenous artist to create a new logo. This year I am hoping to offer frybread classes to schools where all students can learn the history as well as other misconceptions that Indigenous people face. My goal is to educate the younger generation through a fun alternative way like bread making I will also have a new menu, brochures and more exciting things coming soon! #staytuned See more

Hey, it’s me, Sam! My husband and I were supposed to travel to Europe next week to get away and have a short vacation. But one reason I was very excited is that we were going to visit the Wellcome Library in London, where my 3rd great-grandfather's diaries are located. Visiting this library would help me finish my research, and gain more knowledge I may not know. This year I started a major portfolio project on my family history for one of my Indigenous courses. Th...is project has taken me months and months of reading/researching. My 3rd great-grandfather was Arthur Wellington "Clah" a Tsimshian chief, and my great-grandfather was William Beynon who was also a hereditary chief. I was fortunate enough in my research that both my grandfathers were one of the best ethnographers & anthropologists in the Northern Region. Unfortunately, for me, it has been extremely difficult trying to locate these diaries and documents. I am very grateful for the authors, professors and anthropologist that have reached out to myself in helping me complete this lengthy project. Although we're not travelling to Europe, here’s to taking a step back and focusing on my family and health. I also have a couple of fun projects I will be doing in the next couple of weeks. ____ #staytuned #tsimshian #nisgaa #keepingbusy #indigenous #indigenouswomen #yyj #vancouverisland #research #staysafe #indigenousstudies See more

The federal government announced their COVID-19 funding package this morning of $82 Billion. The details aren't all out yet but they have announced as part of t...his "$305 million for a new distinctions-based Indigenous Community Support Fund to address immediate needs in First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Nation communities". When we get details on this support for Indigenous Communities we will let you know more. Malahat is also looking at providing some modest short term support to members in the interim. Other supports announced by the Government of Canada that we expect most members to qualify for are as follows: For over 12 million low- and modest-income families, who may require additional help with their finances, the Government is proposing to provide a one-time special payment by early May 2020 through the Goods and Services Tax credit (GSTC). This will double the maximum annual GSTC payment amounts for the 2019-20 benefit year. The average boost to income for those benefitting from this measure will be close to $400 for single individuals and close to $600 for couples. For over 3.5 million families with children, who may also require additional support, the Government is proposing to increase the maximum annual Canada Child Benefit (CCB) payment amounts, only for the 2019-20 benefit year, by $300 per child. The overall increase for families receiving CCB will be approximately $550 on average; these families will receive an extra $300 per child as part of their May payment. The government gives an example that for a single parent with two kids the family would receive around $1,500 in additional support.
Half and half orders are the best!
