Sixth Avenue Counselling 24.12.2020

Welcome to the Sober House Project Group! We are a quiet revolution, promoting sobriety and peace in our communities. The Sober House Project is a positive cha...nge movement initiated by a group of youth in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan to address the problem of drug and alcohol use in our communities. This project was inspired by an idea presented by Harold R. Johnson in his national best selling book FIREWATER: How Alcohol is Killing My People (and Yours). The project was also inspired by the call to action of northern youth to address drug and alcohol use in our communities as published by the Saskatchewan Advocate for Children and Youth's special report (December, 2017) on the youth suicide crisis in northern Saskatchewan entitled Shhh...LISTEN!! We Have Something To Say! Youth Voices From the North. While Harold R. Johnson's book was meant to be a conversation between himself and his relatives, the Woodland Cree, his message is important for ALL people, because alcohol abuse is a dream killer for ALL people. A Sober House is a home where alcohol is not welcome, and intoxicated people are not welcome. It is a home where there is no pressure to drink. If you are a person who has chosen to walk a sober path, we invite you to post a Sober House sign on your door. You can download Sober House packages and door signs on our website at soberhouseproject.com or you can make your own. A Sober House sign on your door is a quiet declaration that you are choosing to walk the good way of life. Your sober life can be an inspiration to others. Your sober story can change the world. We want to tell stories of courage, of hope, and of victory and we want to hear your stories, too! You are welcome to post your sober stories here. Your story might encourage someone who also wants to walk a sober path. Blessings!

Well it's been confirmed. Starting in November, I have a space to use in Saskatoon. I will be available 1 day a week, either Saturday or Sunday (thinking Sunday as the location is downtown and then parking is free). Thank you to Wanda and Tracy for allowing me to use their space!

Well, it has been a long time since I posted on here. Mainly, because I have been unable to take on more than I already have. As many of you know, I am with two communities and I love it. That's not going to change. I have been seeing people in Prince Albert in the evenings when I stay over. Those are long days, but it's important to me to keep a presence in Prince Albert. I have been turning away a lot of people, and for that, I am sorry. I have had conversations with colle...agues and I am seriously considering opening up a new door in Saskatoon on Saturdays. It hasn't been feasible for me to see people on Saturdays when I have to travel to Prince Albert. Saskatoon is absolutely feasible. Perhaps a trial period for the Winter is my best bet. If I can fill a day per week, maybe making it a long term thing! If you know someone who needs counselling support in the Saskatoon area, keep me in the back of your mind - in case this comes to fruition sooner rather than later. All the best! Anthony
