S.J.C.H.S. Spartan Football 25.01.2021

On Monday the red hot Spartans piled on the bus and with their sights set on dominant Almonte squad for the second time this season. In typical fashion for a playoff game at Beckwith the weather was less than ideal with raging winds and downpours. The Bolts adjusted well to the weather establishing a strong and consistent running game where as the Spartans offence sputtered. The Spartans gave it their all but unfortunately came up short. The Bolts took the game with a sc...ore of 27-2 and will now advance to the LR finals while the Spartans season is done. To all the players and the Coaches thank you for another great and successful season. Next year we hope to come back even stronger, the prep for next season begins now. For the graduating players and your families, thank you for everything you have done for the program. Hopefully we’ll see out supporting the Spartans for years to come! Final score: 27-2 Almonte Record: 3-3 regular season, 0-1 Playoffs Next game: September 2018

Bring on the Playoffs! Tuesday afternoon the Spartans hosted the Fellowes Falcons in a win or go home matchup. High stake games are not new to the Spartans as last week they proved against PDCI that they thrive under pressure. This week was no different for the Varsity Spartans. The St John’s offence has gotten hot and it couldn’t have come at a better time in the year. Jaimie Lee and Dustin Kerr Wiseman both scored TD’s leading the way to a 42 point outburst by the Spartans.... Defensively the Spartans have been stellar of late as well. Fellowes managed just 7 points a week after the Spartans shut out PDCI. The Spartans hope to carry their hot streak into the playoffs. Finishing 4th in the LRFL the Spartans will move onto the LRFL semi Finals. The the Semi’s they will draw Almonte who finished the regular season in first. Final: 42-7 St Johns Record: 3-3 Next Game: Playoff game on Monday October 30, 1 PM vs Almonte

This past Thursday the Spartans took on their cross town rivals, PDCI. Coming off of their Thanksgiving bye week there was more than just town bragging rights on the line as the Spartans found themselves in a must win situation coming into the tilt chasing PDCI in the Lanark Renfrew standings. Alex Purdy lead the offence scoring two touchdowns in the game. Will Froggat and Braeden Kehoe added another score each. Kehoe wasn’t only making plays on offence as he also recorded a...n interception on the day. Jeret Jordan and Nolan Saunders also had big days offensively. Not to be outdone by the offence that put up 33 points, the defence came ready to play and pitched a shut out. Malcom Ford, Jamie Lee, Keegan O'Connell and Dan Mercier made big plays all day for the Spartan D. Next Tuesday the Spartans look to finish the regular season with a victory and secure a spot in the playoffs when Fellowes HS travels to St. John’s for a 1 PM kickoff. Here’s a look at the Senior LRFL standings as they now sit: Almonte 5-0 Arnprior 4-1 Deep River 3-2 Perth 3-3 St. John 2-3 Fellowes 1-4 Smiths Falls 0-5 Final: 33-0 St. John’s over PDCI Record: 2-3 Next Game: Tuesday, October 24 at 1PM Fellowes HS (1-4) @ St. John’s (2-3)

Today the Spartans took a long bus ride to Deep River to play the Mackenzie Mustangs. The bus ride unfortunately seemed to have taken a toll on the Spartans who seemed to be off their game today. The defence despite a strong effort couldn’t contain the Mustangs offence and the Spartan offence had their fair share of struggles as well. This loss now puts the Varsity Spartans in a must win situation next week as they travel to take part in the 2017 instalment of the battle Perth. Final: 22-0 Mackenzie Next Game: PDCI Thursday, October 19

This wet and cold afternoon the Spartans traveled to Almonte to play the Bolts. In what is always an exciting match up between these two schools, today was no different. Down 10-0 at the half Brady Dillon who was electric all game showed off his athleticism scoring a touchdown off of an interception. As per usual Jeret Jordan took command under center and produced another strong performance highlighted by a touchdown pass to Nolan Saunders. Many of the linemen played both... ways for Spartans and showed no sign of fatigue. Down 21-14 late in the game veteran Jamie Lee forced a fumble to give the Spartans one last shot. The offense marched the the Almonte 15 yard line but unfortunately it wasn't meant to be. Final - Almonte: 21, St. Johns: 14 Record 1-2 The Spartans look to rest up over Thanksgiving as they have a bye until Friday October 13th when they travel to Deep River to play the Mackenzie Mustangs and look to return to a .500 record.

Last Friday the Spartans traveled to Smiths Falls to play the RedHawks. On a beautiful sunny day the Spartans showed up seeking revenge from a tough week 1 loss. Veteran QB Jeret Jordan had a career day as he picked apart the RedHawk secondary throwing for 4 TD’s. Will Froggat was on the receiving end of 2 of those majors and Brady Dillon as well as Braden Kehoe caught one a piece. Nolan Saunders rushed for a touchdown and shortly after a gritty defensive stand on the one yar...d line Alex Purdy scored from 90 yards out in a Marshawn Lynch like effort, dragging defenders into the end zone. Dan Mercier and Brady Dillon played lights out both sides of the ball on Friday. On top of that the Defence and Special teams were also dominant on the day as the Spartans pitched the shutout. As the final whistle blew, the Varsity Spartans were victorious in a convincing fashion, winning 53-0. This Friday the Spartans travel with their 1-1 record to Almonte to take on the Bolts. See more
