The theme of today's WES (Workplace Essential Skills) graduation was 'Strong Women'. Congratulations to these four wonderful women; Shawna, Diane, Rania and Trish, who have worked extremely hard and overcome many challenges! Today's celebration included a festive party and a video call from some awesome folks over at WorkingNB. Thanks as always to Stacey Sjle the WESlinks facilitator. Meet Alex! Alex is the new Administrator for our Social Enterprises. While new to the role of Administrator, this isn’t his first time at the Saint John Learning Exchange! Alex started his journey with us in 2016 as a participant of our Work Essentials Skills Program. After completing WES, he enrolled in post-secondary education and graduated from the Administrative Professional program at NBCC in 2019! Alex joined our amazing Social Enterprise team this past September, and w...e are thrilled to have him. TALK ABOUT FULL CIRCLE! Alex loves taking on any new project. He enjoys working with his teammates, collaborating, and problem-solving. His motto is: Anyone can be successful just by putting their minds to it; those who learn and put their foot forward are the ones who see the success in themselves. Today we are feeling especially thankful for Roxanne Fairweather, Dave Grebenc, and their hardworking team at Innovatia! They stopped by this afternoon with a generous donation of $2000! This past year has been incredibly tough on a lot of families financially. Despite all of the hardships, our Learners have continued to amaze us with their resilience and dedication to bettering their futures. This donation is going to go a long way in making some Christmas miracles happen for our Learners!

It was an honor to have Andrea Perry-Nowlan join us this week for her NBCC Administrative Assistant Executive work placement. Andrea is a graduate of the Basic Education & Skills Training (B.E.S.T) program and went on to receive Post-Secondary Coaching which led her to NBCC in 2019. She has had an incredible journey with the Learning Exchange and we are so humbled to witness the challenges she's faced and overcome. Her successes have been plentiful! We can't wait to see where your next steps lead you. You are a gem!

Any gift you make is one of a kind! No two creations will ever be the same as one another, and this gives each piece a special meaning. Thank you Francine Quinn-Steeves for volunteering your time and leading the WES group through this amazing watercolour card tutorial. We truly appreciate all the valuable skills you have taught us! Last weeks flu shot clinic was a huge success! Over 30 staff, learners, and their family members were able to get their flu vaccination free of charge. Thank you so much to the amazing nurses from the Prince Edward Square Guardian Drugs, volunteer staff: Claire and Janelle, and our student volunteers: Melissa (CALP), Trisha (WES), and Raven (WES)! This day would not have been possible without you. We would also like to send a big thank you to Stone Soup Catering & Cafes for providing the yummy coffee and treats!
