Grade 7/8 students worked with Don Maw, retired Conservation Officer, to practice basic survival skills. Over the course of 2 days students learned to make a survival kit, identify safe and unsafe ice, how to get out if they have fallen through and how to save someone who has gone through. Students also learned how to source materials for a fire from their surroundings, safely start a fire, and make a signal fire if they were lost. A lean-to shelter was also an important task to learn.

This week at SJS, we saw acts of kindness for our community in small and big ways! Only one draw winner could be chosen, but this prize gives to an entire class - they won a pizza party for their class! Way to go and congratulations Grade 5/6! We are honoured to celebrate the Kindness Project, sponsored by New Starts for Women , in partnership with area schools’ mental health team. It ties in so well with our Lenten promises of alms giving.
