Good news - the purple and silver trails are now open ( in addition to pink, red, lighted, green, yellow and orange). Thanks groomers

Miramichi Cross Country Ski Club 21.01.2021

I’m featuring two of our trails - Yellow and Pink. Most of our trails start at the west side of the old clubhouse, the Pink starts further east. There is a sign showing that Pink, teaching grid and Jackrabbit trails are to the left. The Jackrabbit trail is not always groomed. The Pink trail at 0.3 km is our shortest trail, sometimes called the Bunny Trail. It is a suitable length for beginning young skiers. It goes though the forest , through and around the grid area. On its... way back to the old clubhouse it joins on to the yellow trail so you will see blazes with both colours. The Yellow trail starts off at the main trailhead and shares the first km with the other trails. At Junction 1 the Red trail goes back to the clubhouse. Continue on until junction 2, and turn left there. The Yellow trail then returns to the clubhouse on a Classic only track. Many classic skiers appreciate these narrower ski trails. The Yellow trail is about 3.5 km long and doesn’t have any difficult hills so is shown as an easy trail. Near the clubhouse, the Pink trail will join the trail. You will also cross the outgoing snowshoe trails. At the very end of Yellow watch out for skiers heading out on the trails as you need to share a few metres with the main trail. Yellow can be nice to ski on a moonlit night or with a headlamp. See more

With a beautiful sunny Sunday it should be a busy day at the ski club. Just a reminder that youth lessons are on today so if you want to avoid the busiest times, get to the clubhouse before 1 pm or after 130 pm. The kids will be picking up their equipment between those times. They also return to the clubhouse with equipment between 230 and 3 pm. This year we can’t gather in the clubhouse afterwards but if we get another nice day like today we could have a bring our own hot chocolate and cookies event outside.

The Red, Yellow, Orange and Lighted and Pink trails have been regroomed. The fresh snow means that Yellow and Orange are better than they were on the weekend. The next few nights look like they will be colder so if you’re going out at night dress for the conditions. Buffs are still available for sale in the clubhouse, they can be worn in a variety of ways to give extra protection and are small enough to stuff in a pocket. This is also a time when most winter accessories are on sale locally, so a good time to pick up a balaclava or warmer mitts or gloves etc.

Clubhouse is open from noon until 5 today. Rentals are available. Please enter at the highway side of the clubhouse and follow physical distancing inside if there is a line up. The Red trail and Lighted trail have been refreshed this morning. Don’t forget to bring a mask for inside., (and outside if within 2m of others not in your household)

Miramichi Cross Country Ski Club 03.12.2020

The Red trail and Lighted trail has been groomed for classic and skate skiing. The youth lessons will be going ahead this weekend but numbers are limited. Registration took place last weekend.

With all regions of NB now in the orange level for COVID -19 guidelines you may be wondering how that will affect the ski club. There will not be a lot of changes, cross-country ski clubs are allowed to operate. We ask that you limit your time in the clubhouse and if you do go inside, provide your name and phone number for contact tracing. One difference in the orange level is that masks must be worn when outside if a 2 m distance can not be kept, this could apply in the parking lot for example. We have not yet decided whether or not to go ahead with Jackrabbit lessons which are permitted, with masks. A decision will be made soon. Being outside is good for the mind and body and with precautions can be done safely. Let’s hope for a bit more snow so more of our trails can open up soon.

A picture is worth 1000 words! You can see conditions are really very good on the 4 km lighted trail, only a few places where you have to step out of the track . Don reports that the snowshoe trails need another good snowfall. There were footprints on the ski trail and I want to remind everyone again that now we are grooming the trails , they are not for winter walking. If you have an emergency situation please walk at the edge of the groomed area being careful not to damage the track.

Miramichi Cross Country Ski Club 20.09.2020

Dear members, please be advised that due to the provincial state of emergency surrounding the corona virus the club has decided to close its trails for the remainder of the season. We thank you all for your support throughout the past season and look forward to seeing you ‘on the trails’ next season. Stay safe, healthy and active until then Ski club executive

All ski trails have been groomed for classic and skate skiing. CAUTION Marion’s Bridge (Purple/Blue Trail) has a narrow snowpack as is usual for this time of year. Ski carefully. Groomers think this may be the last opportunity for grooming this season.... Snowshoe Trails are open. Club house is closed.

Miramichi Cross Country Ski Club 25.08.2020

Members of the grooming team expect to be out before dawn Wednesday and intend to have all trails open by noon. This includes Blue and tracking for classic skiing on all the usual classic trails. (Provided they don’t come across flooded sections) Although ski trails are expected to be open by noon keep in mind that spring skiing by mid-afternoon can present difficulties due to mild temperatures and a strong sun. If you feel your skiing is damaging a soft base which, when froz...en as temperatures drop can become hazardous, it might be best to ski later when temperatures drop. Early evening temperatures are forecast to be cooler. Sunset is at 7:40. Snowshoe Trails are available. Club House is closed.

Ski trail update - we just found out that the skating trail was able to be groomed this afternoon once it was warmer so Red and Green and lit are open for skating! Ski with caution.

Miramichi Cross Country Ski Club 30.07.2020

Attempts were made to groom ski trails today but conditions were not good so the ski trails are closed. Snowshoe trails remain open for those who wish to snowshoe , while practising social distancing. The clubhouse is closed of course.

Dear members, Now that a state of emergency has been declared in New Brunswick over the corona virus the ski club will be closing its doors effective today, March 19 for the remainder of the season. The club will continue to maintain the trails as long as conditions permit to allow people to ski. Snowshoe trails will also remain open. Trail conditions will continue to be issued via email and Facebook. We regret having to close the clubhouse but it is in the best interest of the members and staff. Thank you all for your patience and support. Take care of yourselves and stay healthy! Ski club executive

Miramichi Cross Country Ski Club 25.06.2020

The clubhouse will no longer be open in the evening. The evenings are long so members can still ski in the evening if trail conditions are good, we are getting into spring skiing conditions where it is often too warm to ski or snowshoe later in the day and caution is needed in the morning if it is icy.

MCCSC Covid-9 Advisory In response to the Covid-19 pandemic the ski club executive has decided to remain open for the time being. However, the club is asking members and all skiers/snowshoers to stay away if not feeling well and respect any self-isolations that may be in effect for them. The club is also taking measures to keep the number of skiers in the clubhouse to a minimum. We will be removing tables/chairs from use and discouraging any lingering in the clubhouse. Peopl...e can rent gear and go out to use it. We do have antiseptic wipes that will be used to minimize transmission on the hard surfaces. The water cooler will also be removed from the main ski room and the log book will be filled out by the lodge keeper. These measures are put in place to allow skiers to continue to get outdoors on the ski trails. The situation is being monitored daily and further actions may need to be taken. Information on the club’s status will be made available on the club’s Facebook page, email and website should the situation change. MCCSC executive. See more

Dear member/supporter of the Miramichi Cross Country Ski Club, now that our club has seen improvements as a result of the recent project, including the addition of a 24 lane biathlon range we now need to upgrade our grooming equipment in order to provide the quality of trails that will be required for competitions, and skiing in general. The club is participating in the ‘100 Campaign’ sponsored by Nordiq Canada which will issue official tax receipts to donors. This is a grea...t opportunity to assist the club with its fundraiser with tax deductible donations. The program ends on April 2/20 so all donations must be registered by that date. Please help the club raise money for grooming equipment. Every dollar helps! Link https://www.canadahelps.org/me/4qPHx7W Should you wish to donate by cheque rather than on-line there will be a form available at the club for this purpose. Norm Brown President MCCSC
