Finally. Finally. Finally. We are once again open to serve our dental family! With Alberta’s transition to its Phase 1 recovery plan, we are able to provide all types of dental and dental hygiene care! Things aren’t quite back to normal - our front door is still locked, our waiting room is not in full use, our kids area is temporarily shut down, we are still wearing heavy duty protective equipment, appointments don’t quite flow the same way as they did before, and our teammat...es are returning in waves - but we will be operating at substantial capacity by next week! We can treat you and your family safely. A few notes: Our reception team is working diligently through over 900 appointments that had to be moved during the shutdown. Please be patient if you are waiting for rebooking or routine care. We have maintained space to treat emergencies that arise, and are booking appointments for any new needs you encounter as well as for new patients. When you arrive at the clinic (for now), you won’t come in to the waiting room. You will call our reception team to let us know you’ve arrived. When your clinician is ready to seat you, we will call you to come in. Once in the office, we will take your temperature and then take you to your private care room for COVID-19 screening and dental care. Parents with little ones or those who require a caregiver to attend should take some time to discuss their circumstances when called to confirm their appointment and do pre-screening as there are limits to additional persons in both the operatories and the reception area. Appointments might take longer than you are used to for a variety of reasons. Please understand that we are doing our very best to be timely. We are wearing a lot of protective equipment for certain procedures. If that is a source of stress for you, don’t hesitate to ask and we can explain the reasons behind it all. If you have a mask, please wear it when you are called to enter the clinic. Finally, please don’t approach or feed Floss, our Canada Goose living in the entrance flower bed. She has three eggs in her nest and she can be aggressive if she feels threatened. This especially applies to our curious little ones. We really look forward to seeing you soon.

Hi everyone, An update to yesterday’s post... Despite comments that led most Albertans to believe that May 4th would be business-as-usual at Alberta’s dental clinics, that is not the case.... Like all dental clinics, we are under the regulation of the Alberta Dental Association and College. The Colleges primary duty is to protect patients’ well-being. As such, they are actively developing phased back-to-work plans for dental clinics that balance patient (and clinician) safety with restoring access to care for patients. This incorporates modified infection control protocols, equipment protocols and public health measures such as physical distancing and barrier modifications. Not a lot will have changed in terms of care we can provide as of Monday. We are still primarily managing all cases through phone consultation and medical management (prescriptions). Call us at 780-473-2003, as always, if you are experiencing a dental emergency. It is very likely that we will be on track for a re-launch around May 14, but that date could move back or forward, depending on directions from our regulator and availability of protective equipment for our staff. Things WILL be different for a while. We will have to limit who can come in to the office and when they can come in. We have to put our lovely reception team behind a giant glass barrier. We will share these new protocols with you here (and hopefully on our soon-to-launch new website) - so don’t worry - nothing will be a surprise. We are pretty excited that things are tracking towards a return to action really soon. We’ve missed you, and even if we need to wear stuff like this (the mask, not the backwards baseball cap), we’re going to see you soon!!

Hi everyone, Just the first of what will be multiple updates after Premier Kenney’s announcement. There are many factors in dental clinics getting back to work. The first is lifting of the government order prohibiting certain activities. The second is the same action by our regulatory bodies.... As it sits at 4:45 PM, we have no idea what orders are being lifted and when. We realize the Premier did say the words May 4 and dental at the same time, but are awaiting communication from the regulators as to whether May 4 or May 14 (or some other surprise day) will be the one. The second major factor will be the restrictions on provision of care. We don’t know how facility capacity, physical distancing and a myriad of other factors will work. We’ve been diligently addressing lots of factors but there will certainly be more. Finally, we need sufficient stock of protective equipment to protect you and protect ourselves. This is a big challenge that we are actively addressing everyday. Rest assured that anything we do is going to be SAFE. Bear with us. We want to see you as badly as you want to see us - but we don’t yet have the information needed to immediately begin moving up appointments from your scheduled dates. We have lists of urgent care waiting, and our reception team will contact you as soon as we can! I’ll be posting updates here regularly. In the meantime, enjoy the funny surprised 3D tooth, and call us at 780-473-2003 with any emergencies.

There are no words to adequately express the sadness all Canadians feel about the senseless tragedy in Nova Scotia. The closest we can come is to turn it over to the Skuba Dental family’s resident Nova Scotian, Dr. Lauren Davis. Dear Nova Scotia With deepest sympathy and a very heavy heart I want to send my condolences to my home province of Nova Scotia during this unthinkable tragedy. To the families, loved ones, and communities of the victims words can’t express the shoc...k, sadness, and disbelief that come from hearing about this senseless act. As someone who grew up in Nova Scotia, it is a place that felt protected from this type of violence. Nova Scotia has a strong sense of family and tight-knit community and I am utterly devastated to hear about what my home has gone through this weekend, and the people they have lost. Nova Scotians are also known for standing together and leaning on each other through dark times such as these. There are many Nova Scotians spread throughout the country and the world whose hearts are breaking and who are mourning with you. Please know that this support is shining a light over this darkness and we will rise again. To my fellow Nova Scotians: although ugly things happened this weekend, you are strong, you are beautiful, and you will always be home. - Dr. Lauren Davis https://youtu.be/4C5IoSnPEIY

Big news from SkubaDental! We had a Zoom staff meeting last night, and today, some new clients showed up at the front door. Summary: we really want this to end and see our patients instead of geese and homeschooling our children.

Hi everyone, We hope you are all coping well with extreme social distancing and want you to know that your dental family misses you profoundly and can’t wait until we see you again. We’ve never wanted to hear about your toothache or TMJ pain as badly as we do right now! With that being said, we need you to know that you are not alone right now if you encounter a dental emergency. Our reception desk is staffed Monday-Friday (780-473-2003) and ready to get our dentists to assis...t you. Our customary after hours emergency contact system is still in service. Our close relationships with excellent dental specialists also help us make sure that we can facilitate your care in the most serious of situations. While we are limited in the services we can currently provide in office, we CAN help and we WANT to help. We’re all focused on beating the scourge of COVID-19, but don’t forget that the health of your mouth affects the health of your body. Don’t send your kids out on play dates. Maintain social distancing and keep a separation of 2 metres (6 feet) anytime you’re around someone from outside of your household, even if you’re out for a walk. Use the AHS COVID screening tool, and stay home with ANY cold and flu symptoms at all. See ya soon. We’re bored without you. Dr. J, on behalf of the SkubaDental team PS. If you are our patient but don’t follow us, there’s no excess of time like the present to follow the page!

********URGENT******** By order of the Alberta Dental Association and College, all non-emergency dental treatment and services are suspended IMMEDIATELY. With that order, Skuba Dental Associates is temporarily closed. Please do not present at the clinic, as any administrative staff in place are not authorized to admit patients for any reason.... We understand that this is a dramatic development. While we work diligently to help our employees and families in this difficult time, we will keep our phone lines open and will be facilitating contact with our dentists to address any emergency situations you encounter. You can still contact us via our usual clinic phone number 780-473-2003. If you have appointments booked in March, you can expect to hear from our staff as soon as possible to reschedule your appointments. Please do not call to rebook appointments at the point - our reception team is working through the schedule in order. We are ready and waiting to get back to work for you and your loved ones, but we are also happy to willingly do our part in flattening the curve. We will be posting updates here whenever they are needed. Be well, we'll miss you. See you soon. Dr. J, on behalf of the whole Skuba Dental Family

Hi everyone, me again. With the latest Alberta Health Services mandate, all classes are canceled and daycares are closed. We understand that this will pose major issues for our patients and staff, and we are here to work through this with everyone. We understand that you may need to cancel appointments for a variety of reasons, and we hope that you understand we may need to cancel some appointments due to staffing constraints.... We will be screening every person attending the clinic at the front door for travel history, symptoms and fever. We will not treat (or admit to the clinic) anyone who has travelled outside of Canada within 14 days or has had close contact with anyone who is within that travel window. If you have any doubt as to whether or not to attend, DO NOT ATTEND your appointment and contact our team at 780-473-2003 (phones open at 8am tomorrow). Dr. J
