I had some wonderful hikes and a bike ride yesterday with a good friend followed by a birthday dinner and chocolate almond torte with Tom and another special friend. Lovely day. I am grateful.
Did you know there are six native land mammal subspecies on Haida Gwaii not found anywhere else on earth? This includes the largest black bears in North America, known as "taan" in the Haida language.
Sometimes the best ‘staycation’ hikes are totally unplanned. I walked out of the forest to go on an agate walk-about, and there was a 35km Southeasterly, so I p...ut my back to it and walked NW up the beach for a couple of hours. Rather than walk back into the headwind it was easier to ford the river at the mouth, hike back through the forest and walk across the river again. 14 km in gum boots without blisters. 0 people- 100% bliss See more
Another great day hiking and biking Haida Gwaii with a friend. The ultimate staycation!
Laura Sample sharing a beautiful Taan cub photo with the world. Kind and thoughtful of you to capture this moment and share it with all of us Laura.
A day for watching the clouds and waves roll by with beautiful flowers beside my reading chair.

Dr. Matt with entertaining and blunt advice on the need to flatten the curve here.
At this time, we ask all visitors to Haida Gwaii to adhere to Council of the Haida Nation guidelines on non-essential travel to our home. Haida Gwaii is a vul...nerable place in times of medical crisis, and it is important to protect our local communities. Please enjoy these images as a virtual tour, and make plans to visit AFTER the danger has passed. Be safe, be well #flattenthecurve Spirit Lake Trail, Haida Gwaii by @esplenfoto See more

Well social distancing is a new term for most of us, but if I’m going to do anywhere in the world, the beaches of Haida Gwaii are incredible. There were 8 people on 10 kilometres of beach today followed by 7 km of forest hiking only passing 2 other people on the trail. A beautiful day to be outdoors, healthy and grateful for beautiful surroundings.
Please have a watch. Great job NBCT and ITBC and all of the other partners. Gwaliga Hart https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6FqqQTrI2o&feature=youtu.be
