While SkyMotion Video has enjoyed Standing SFOCs (Special Flight Operations Certificates) from Transport Canada to operate drones throughout Canada for years now, we have stayed away from conducting drone work within the USA. We were hired for a new children's television series for Sprout entitled "Terrific Trucks" where we had to film real live trucks and excavation machinery in a quarry. American Gods, the all-new television series from Starz, is one which we worked for on many occasions last year. Principle photography took place all around Toronto, the GTA, and throughout south-western Ontario. Based on the Neil Gaiman's book, the story is driven by interesting characters consisting of old gods and new gods in the contemporary setting of modern day America. Once again, we had the pleasure to work with director Luis Gerard, and director of photography Sonnel Velázquez, as well as the production team of Holiday Films for these two new commercials being filmed in the region of Santa Marta, Colombia. The region has so much to offer; the high sea, waterfalls in the mountains, exclusive coastal villas, ridges and much more. Needless to say the filming days were action packed. The drone was certainly put through the paces during filmin...g over the week as we took off from boats, tight sections of dense rainforest jungle, or off cliff ridge edges. The shoot was full of adventures as we hopped from one location to the next, but two beautiful commercials came out of it! Coming this Friday to Netflix is the all new feature film by Ricky Gervais, ‘Special Correspondents‘. The film which stars Ricky Gervais, Eric Bana, Vera Farmiga, Kelly Macdonald, Kevin Pollak, Benjamin Bratt, America Ferrera and Raúl Castillo, features drone aerial cinematography by SkyMotion Video. Synopsis: "A radio journalist and his technician get in over their heads when they hatch a scheme to fake their own kidnapping during a rebel uprising in South America and hide o...ut in New York instead." - Internet Movie Database (IMDB) While the story takes place in New York and Ecuador, SkyMotion Video was tasked with capturing aerial footage in Toronto with the RED Dragon equipped drone to make it look like Gervais and Bana were sailing the seas on their way to Ecuador. Filmed at the shores of Lake Ontario at Scarborough Bluffs in Toronto, the drone was flown from the shoreline to capture the transitional travel shot in a mere morning. Back in October 2014, we had the pleasure of capturing aerial video footage in one of our favorite landscapes in Canada: Northern Ontario. Drone Filming for 11-22-63 Airs on Hulu Last year in 2015, another series which has kept SkyMotion Video busy with its premier drone aerial cinematography services in and around Toronto Ontario, was the exciting new Hulu original series, ‘11.22.63’. Starring James Franco, produced by JJ Abrams, and based on the novel from Stephen King this new Hulu original series is by far the most ambitious and expensive production to come from the streaming service. Over the past year, from March to October 2015, we have had the pleasure of providing drone aerial filming services for the television series Heroes Reborn in and around the Toronto area. The show is a mini series based on NBC’s original series Heroes. While not quite a sequel, Heroes Reborn has kept some of the characters from the original series, but their world has changed now that the population knows the existence of evolved humans, called "evos". Last August of 2015 we had the pleasure of supplying the aerial filming services for the latest Lotto 649 commercials which were shot in beautiful Nova Scotia Canada. Directed by Luis Gerard and produced by Holiday Films, our first destination was set at the extraordinary Cabot Cliffs Golf Course in Cape Breton. Last March in Toronto, we were happy to supply the drone aerial video services for the Minority Report television series pilot episode. 20th Century Fox chose the city of Toronto for the filming of the new TV series pilot, but the show has since then moved to Vancouver. The story is set in 2065, 11 years after the original film's storyline, and after the abolishment of the PreCrime program.
