She had a great time at Trent, and that was when she decided to come back to Canada and do her Masters. She is interested in building new connections and working with others to develop new skills. She has volunteered for organizations in Germany and helped other students to build the...ir skills and believe in their dreams. Hello VIU Students! The Student Leadership Circle and CCR Talks have collaborated to create a new virtual workshop this October, and we are inviting you to attend! The Presentation Power Hour: A Workshop in Public Speaking is a virtual workshop available to all VIU students, with the aim of helping students to develop their public speaking skills. This year, when most classroom interactions are through online platforms, public speaking looks a little different, and we have to... adapt to speaking to an audience in this new format. By attending this workshop, students will learn how to develop their speaking skills, network with other students who are also looking to build this skillset, and will have the opportunity to receive feedback on how to improve their presentations. Last but not least, by participating in this event, students add to their Non-Academic Transcript by receiving a Co-Curricular Record Notation! This workshop will be taking place from 6:00 - 7:00pm PST on Wednesday, November 2 via Zoom. If you are interested in attending, please register via the Eventbrite (QR code) https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/presentation-power-hour-a-works Part of the workshop will involve some participants giving mini-presentations and receiving feedback - don’t worry, you won’t need to prepare anything before you come, and participation in this aspect of the workshop is completely optional! Calling all VIU Students! Are you looking to develop valuable leadership skills? Would you like to build your Non-Academic Transcript? Do you consider yourself outgoing and enthusiastic? If you said yes to any of these, this opportunity is for you! The Student Leadership Circle (SLC) is looking for student leaders to expand the opportunities associated with our professional development workshops this year! As part of the Office of Co-Curricular Engagement and Learning, the S...LC creates, plans, and facilitates professional development workshops for VIU students. Each workshop is designed to target at least one relevant skill and/or VIU Graduate Attribute. The SLC aims to provide an opportunity to equip students with tools that can be applied to their personal and professional lives. Past workshops have focused on topics that build skills around public speaking, technological literacies, and critical thinking. This year the SLC is looking for two students to fill the roles of Workshop Planner and Outreach Leader. Both of these positions are CCR approved! Introducing your 2020/2021 SLC Vice-Chair: Scotia Brailsford! Coming from Hamilton Ontario, Scotia is at VIU to complete a post-degree diploma in Fisheries and Aquaculture. She is excited to take the skills she developed during her undergrad - where she volunteered as an Orientation Week Leader and was an executive of her university’s outdoors club - and apply them at VIU. She is passionate about helping create the best student experience possible, and is a firm believer that a huge portion of the learning that happens at university occurs outside of the classroom.
