Monitoring your blood pressure on a regular basis is an important part of managing high blood pressure and knowing if you are at risk for heart disease or stroke. It can also help your health care team diagnose any health problems early and allow them to take steps to control your blood pressure if it is too high. I can also alert them of any potential health complications. Home monitoring will also help you know whether or not treatments, lifestyle changes and medications ar...e working, and can help you and your doctor make decisions about your treatment. Self-monitoring can also give you a stronger sense of responsibility for your health. It may help motivate you to control your blood pressure with an improved diet, physical activity and proper medication use. Did you know that there are many benefits to sleeping on the left side of your body? If you are a side sleeper, you should consider sleeping on the left side as opposed to the right. Sleeping on your left side can aid digestion, alleviate acid reflux and heartburn, stimulate the drainage of toxins from your lymph nodes and even improve your circulation. When we sleep on our left side, the stomach and its gastric juices remain lower than the esophagus, reducing heartburn and g...astric reflux. It also allows gravity to move food waste from your small intestine to your large intestine, and into your colon more effectively, aiding the digestion process. If you want to try sleeping on your left side, try putting a pillow against your back to prevent you from rolling over, or placing a firm pillow between your knees to support your spine. As we know, light therapy is one of the many ways we can treat Seasonal Affective Disorder, but did you know that in order to to get the full benefits of light therapy, you must be exposed to a light with an intensity of more than 2,500 lux for at least 2 hours on a daily basis? For comparison, the light of a well-lit room is about 300 to 500 lux, while on a very sunny day, it can be over 100,000 lux. The clinically recognized standard for light exposure is 10,000 lux at eye ...level for 30 minutes every day, ideally in the morning. Results are generally felt within the first week, but four weeks of treatment is usually necessary to get optimal results. Remember to speak to a physician about specific requirements that are needed for your current and previous health records. #SleepEh #LightTherapy #SeasonalAffectiveDisorder #SAD #winterblues #EverythingSleep #Canadian #ownedandoperated #supportlocalbusiness #CPAP

Making sure your CPAP Equipment is clean and up to date is extremely important to the success of your CPAP therapy. Over time, your CPAP materials will deteriorate and can get germy and unsanitary. This will also keep them from being able to function properly. No matter how well you maintain and clean your equipment, you will still experience wear and tear over time.... There are certain signs you can look for to see if it’s time for a replacement, and this chart is a great schedule to follow to ensure all your accessories are functioning optimally. Did you know that working in your bedroom can mess with your sleep and harm productivity? Try to reserve the bedroom for nothing but sleeping. Your brain learns to associate your bed with sleep, so getting in bed helps cue the body that it’s time to wind down. Trying to do work there might be more difficult than usual, because your brain will think it’s time to relax, not time to work. Avoid working in the bedroom because this may cause your brain to start associating your be...droom with stressful or stimulating activities, making it harder to relax. Having a TV or computer in your bedroom might also cause you to look at the screen before bed, exposing your eyes to the blue light that is emitted by electronics, which can inhibit the production of melatonin. If you have no other option than to work in your bedroom, make sure to put any electronic devices away at least 30 minutes before bedtime, and set boundaries between work and sleep by silencing email notifications, and not responding outside of work hours. #SleepEh #Sleeptips #Wellness #WFH #EverythingSleep #Canadian #ownedandoperated #supportlocalbusiness #CPAP

Exercising daily has many benefits for both your body and mind, but did you know that it can also directly affect your ability to get a good night's sleep? Moderate aerobic exercise can increase the amount of deep sleep you get, and it can also help stabilize your mood and relieve stress. Working out in the morning or afternoon can also help you fall asleep faster at night and give you more alertness during the day, however exercising too close to bedtime or too vigorously ca...n actually keep you tossing and turning longer. Exercising causes an increase in your body temperature and, as we know, your body temperature drops when it is time to fall asleep. This rise in body temperature signals your body that it is time to be awake, so make sure you're done exercising at least 1 - 2 hours before bed to give your body temperature time to decline. Aerobic exercise also causes the body to release endorphins which can create a level of activity in the brain that keeps most people awake. Exercising at least 1 to 2 hours before going to bed allows time for your endorphin levels to lower and for your brain to wind down. Exercise may also reduce insomnia by decreasing stress, anxiety and depressive symptoms. The way exercise affects your sleep will vary from person to person, but no matter what, incorporating regular workouts into your daily routine will make a positive impact on your overall health. #SleepEh #Exercise #Wellness #SleepTips #EverythingSleep #Canadian #ownedandoperated #supportlocalbusiness #CPAP

Temperature plays a huge role in our body’s natural ability to sleep. You probably know from first hand experience that it is extremely hard to fall asleep if your room is too cold, or worse, too hot! At night, our body releases melatonin to help the body temperature drop, and once we get into bed and lay still, our body temperature decreases even faster. This is usually a degree or two colder than compared to what it normally is during the daytime. This drop in temperature h...elps to trigger sleep onset. Keeping your bedroom at a cool temperature can help this process happen faster, but make sure that it’s not too cold that you wake up shivering. Experts suggest that you keep your bedroom at a temperature range between 15-20 degrees Celsius and make sure it is as dark and quiet as possible. Some studies even show that some forms of insomnia are associated with an improper regulation in body temperature. It is important to use trial and error to figure out what temperature is the most comfortable for you. Once you know your ideal bedroom temperature, you should be able to fall asleep easier, and stay asleep longer! #SleepEh #Sleeptips #Wellness#EverythingSleep #Canadian #ownedandoperated #supportlocalbusiness #CPAP

Do you ever wake up on a cold, dark winter morning and are just unable to leave your bed? You might just have a case of the Winter Blues, or SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) SAD is classified as a form of depression that coincides with the seasons. Most often, symptoms are apparent in Fall through Winter consisting of low energy, poor concentration and feeling moody. The symptoms are due to less sunlight during these colder months. Light therapy is the exposure of artificial... light to provide therapy to treat Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and other conditions. The light mimics natural light emitted from the sun, but due to geographical location and whether the sun might not always be shining! In this case, artificial light is able to affect the chemicals in the brain, which influence mood and sleep, just as natural light would. Bright artificial light is able to stimulate the retina and in turn cause regulation of circadian rhythms controlled by the hypothalamus. Think of the circadian rhythm as an internal clock, which determines physiological cycles within living beings. Light Therapy can be a safe and effective method to reduce symptoms of the Winter Blues and Seasonal Affective Disorder. It’s easy to find a fit that’s right for you and your lifestyle! Remember to speak to a Physician about specific requirements that are needed for your current and previous health records.
