Farewell Dear Billy Slo-Pitch National is deeply saddened to announce the passing of one of our founders and former President Bill Miller. Bill had a simple vision, to create a Canadian Slo-Pitch organization that allowed the worst to be the best for a moment in time.... He started the Centennial Slo-Pitch of Etobicoke in 1975 with longtime friend Dave Mantell. That league is still in existence today and will carry on honouring his legacy. He ran the OV Slo-Pitch Program for Carling Breweries and was a founder of Slo-Pitch Ontario eventually moving on to build the Canada wide organization of Slo-Pitch National and launch the Coors Slo-Pitch Program for Molson Breweries in 1989. Bill retired from Slo-Pitch National in 2018. His dedication and passion for the sport of slo-pitch has been enjoyed across Canada by slo-pitch players young and old. He was very proud that so many people are enjoying what he helped to create. He leaves behind many dear friends and colleagues across North America who he met through his years of organizing, umpiring and playing, with endless stories and antics experienced along the way. Bill is survived by his wife Diane , daughter and son in law Sandra and Brian, his mother Rose and brothers John (Carol) and Rick (Linda), nephews Scott, Chad and Daryl. He will be forever missed by Tricia, Dom and Jackson. He was predeceased by his father Jack and his beloved daughter Wendy. If you build it they will come. And they certainly did! Rest In Peace dear Billy.

Happy Hump Day everyone! As Slo-Pitch National thrives to select passionate and hardworking umpires across Canada each Wednesday, this week we are excited to feature Fatima Maiato! Fatima has umpired in the GTA for 16 years with SPN. Fatima’s most memorable experience was in September 2016 when she was partnered Richard McLaughlin for her first Provincial Championships. Prior to stepping onto the diamond I vomited twice due to nerves, and then had to endure the ride from the... clubhouse to the diamond that seemed 100kms away. We setup the diamond and called coaches. The rest is a bit of a blur. However, I do recall it was a mercy but I was focused on making sure everything was perfect. I didn't realize it was a mercy until Rich whistled at me to come in recollects Maiato. Helping to educate newer players on the game regardless their skill level and wanting them to love the game as much as she has over the past 30 years is Fatima’s favorite part of umpiring. Three tips that Fatima shared are: Look at every new game as an opportunity to be better and do your best! If you made a mistake, own up to it, learn from it, and move on! and lastly have fun! It's a game! Fatima is grateful to her mentors over the years; Ed Sato, Karen Aitken-Kennedy, Al Hood, Ron Poulton and of course Richie McLaughlin. Slo-Pitch National would like to give Fatima a huge thank you, we are grateful to have such a diligent official be a part of our program. Many thanks! #humpday #umpy #redcap Tricia Harrow Rodic SPNBC SPN Alberta Facebook Page SPN Saskatchewan SPN Manitoba SPNOntario SPNQC SPNMaritimes SPN Newfoundland Labrador

Happy Hump Day everyone! Each week Slo-Pitch National has featured an official to thank them for their commitment and enthusiasm to the diamond sport we all love. This week we have the delight of featuring Wayne Parker! Wayne umpires in both Halifax and Dartmouth, NS where he is no stranger to the diamond having umpired for 10 years. Wayne had decided to sadly part with playing and thought umpiring would be a great way to stay around the game. Wayne enjoys meeting and seein...g people play the great game, while he does his part of making the game not only fair but fun too! Wayne’s biggest challenge is umpiring in long hot days They can be draining, while baking in the sun or getting soaked in the rain Wayne said. Slo-Pitch National would like to thank Wayne for all his support to the program over the years, Cheers! #humpday #umpy #redcap SPNBC SPN Alberta Facebook Page SPN Saskatchewan SPN Manitoba SPNOntario SPNQC SPN Maritimes, Halifax Region - News & Info SPNMaritimes SPN Newfoundland Labrador

Happy Hump day! Each week Slo-Pitch National has the pleasure of selecting amazingly dedicated umpires across Canada. This week we have a candidate from Ladner, BC who has been umpiring with SPN since 2000! We are excited to put Rusty Monger in the hot spot this Hump day. Rusty became an umpire with us due to a shortage of Umpires in the league he had been playing in at the time. Rusty had mentioned that his first National Championships was a huge experience back in 2004, si...nce then he has umpired at 8 National Championships and 16 Provincial Championships. Rusty’s favorite part of umpiring is still being on the field he doesn’t play any longer and said it is a hard game to walk away from and of course pay day!! Rusty would like to mention 2 of his mentors George Hadley and George Heimbigner. Rusty finished by sharing some of his tips that include being fair and firm with everyone, don’t play favorites and let them play! Everyone at Slo-Pitch National would like to extend a huge thank you to Rusty for all his hard work throughout the years at championships and in league play! #humpday #umpy #redcap SPNOntario SPNBC SPN Alberta Facebook Page SPN Newfoundland Labrador SPN Manitoba SPN Saskatchewan SPNMaritimes Brian Gagnon Slo-Pitch National Ontario Region Umpire Mentor Group Slo-Pitch National Ontario Region Umpire Mentor Group

Happy Hump Day everyone! As Slo-Pitch National continues to select candidates across Canada to feature their hard work and dedication to the game we all know and love. This week James Simpson has been selected to showcase from Saskatoon, SK. James has been umpiring for over 20 years. James was always chosen by his teammates to umpire their games so he decided to become an Official SPN Umpire. Being able to watch and experience good ball being played as well as being around... the diamond sport all summer long is what James enjoys most each and every ball season. Slo-Pitch National would like to extend a huge thank you to James for his years of service to the program! #humpday #umpy #redcap SPNMaritimes SPNBC SPN Alberta Facebook Page SPN Saskatchewan SPN Manitoba SPNOntario SPN Newfoundland Labrador Tricia Harrow Rodic

Happy Hump Day! As the weeks continue Slo-Pitch National is featuring an umpire each week from across Canada for Hump Day! This week we have selected an umpire out of Quebec Guy Rochon who has been umpiring in the Gatineau and surrounding area for the past 30 years! Guy enjoys keeping the game fair for everyone involved, also he loves to be around young spirits! Guy says that is what keeps me young and healthy! Guy’s first time umpiring at the National Championships was i...n the Maritimes. He remembers umpiring 2 teams from the New Brunswick area, at the end of the game both teams expressed how much they enjoyed the game because Guy was as engaged in the game as they were! Guy has also been invited to umpire the PIF Tournament in Sherbooke, QC which is one of his biggest challenges and rewards all wrapped into one! Slo-Pitch National would like to thank Guy for his years of commitment to the game, keep up the amazing work! Happy Hump Day everyone, each Wednesday Slo-Pitch National is proud to feature an umpire from various regions across Canada. This week we have the pleasure of featuring Darren Humber from St. John's Newfoundland. Darren has been umpiring for the past 18 years, he has also been Newfoundland's Deputy Umpire in Chief for the last 4 years. Travelling to Moncton with 3 fellow Newfoundland umpires in 2017 to officiate the National championships . Darren tells us he loves the game... of slo-pitch and greatly enjoys being around the field. Chatting with the teams and friends is always a pleasure. Darren further says that seeing great ball, spending time in the fresh air and getting to travel is extra special. Darren hopes that going forward the game expands in NL for more people to enjoy as much as he does. Everyone at Slo-Pitch National would like to congratulate Darren for being nominated to be featured today and to also thank him for his work as an official over the past eighteen years! #humpday #umpy #redcap Tricia Harrow Rodic Lorri Mcauley Kent Kamenz Tara Parent Mike Harding Rob French SPNMaritimes SPN Manitoba SPN Newfoundland Labrador SPN Alberta Facebook Page SPNBC SPNOntario SPN Saskatchewan SPNQC SPN Maritimes, Halifax Region - News & Info

Happy Hump Day everyone! As we continue to select dedicated umpires each week from across Canada to feature on our social media for their hard work and passion during each and every ball season. This week we are thrilled to feature Mike A. Baiani. Mike has umpired for four years now in the Moncton area of New Brunswick. Mike’s deciding factor to become an umpire was his Father, whom has umpired softball as well and is also in the New Brunswick softball Hall of Fame. He was ...my inspiration Mike said! Mike has also played ball/softball in many levels across Canada and he wishes to give back to the sport that made him who he is today! Mike’s favorite memory of umpiring thus far was being able to umpire two National Championships along with three Maritime Provincial Championships during his career. Along with umpiring the tournaments building relationships with players and fellow umpires across the country are his best memories. Everyone at Slo-Pitch National would like to congratulate Mike for being nominated to be featured today and to also thank him for his work as an official over the past four years! #humpday #umpy #redcap Tricia Harrow Rodic Lorri Mcauley Theresa Marie Kent Kamenz Barry Black Mike Harding Rob French SPNBC SPN Alberta Facebook Page SPN Saskatchewan SPN Manitoba SPNOntario SPNQC SPNMaritimes SPN Newfoundland Labrador
