Christmas is fast approaching. In our home, the season began on Dec. 6, As we celebrated the arrival of St. Nicholas or Svaty Mikulas. Yes, the fore-runner of Santa Claus. There would be a Christmas concert at our Slovak church or at our Slovak League Hall. Mikulas would come and treat all of us children with a present or a goodie bag of candies and fruit. At home we would always wake up to a gift or treat that Mikulas left for us. Luckily we were pretty good so we never found a lump of coal in our shoe. So let's be thankful for what we have, as we anticipate the arrival of the baby Jesus.
