After saying, catch up a million times, I decided to go with ketchup which we decided had to mean stop because it is red, mustard which meant slow down, and relish which means give it all you’ve got! As we take some time to rest, reflect, and be present in this holiday season we are sending out love and best wishes to all of our SpeechHouse friends. There have been many lessons learned and challenges conquered this year. This gingerbread house is a reminder that parts of 2020 have been beautiful and behind the scenes there have been many parts of this year that have seemed broken and less than perfect. But when you put the pieces together you can still have a beautiful experience that teaches us and helps us to learn and grow. Happy Holidays with lots of love!

One of the books that we love is called, Not a Box. The story leads your imagination to see a box as a rocket ship, a mountain to climb, a car to race. Try using this same strategy during challenging moments with your little people. Instead of another mess to clean up, we used this spill to figure out what landform it was. A lake or an island? I’ll go get my book! Ice-cream sundae reward for not doing your best work? You bet. Our drive home one day consisted of the usual discussions, How much work did you get done today from your agenda? His response, Four things. We were aiming for 6 to get an ice-cream sundae. So the next question was, Did you do your best work? The was a pause, and then a gentle nod for no. Knowing when you are not doing your best is SO much more valuable than completing extra work. So this ice-cream sundae was for being honest. And it was well earned. Rather than give a reminder to do your best, try asking, Did you do your best? It took us a little while to really figure out this quote of the week. The last thing we need is more stress or guilt about our parenting. But it did give us the opportunity to think about what we say to our little people and make some small changes. Rather than saying, You can’t do that, we tried saying, Please don’t do that.
