Saskatchewan Land Surveyors Association 08.11.2020

What does a Saskatchewan Land Surveyor do? The members of our association have been, and continue to be, engaged in the determination, measurement and establishment of boundaries of land and related activities. Land surveyors are public officers. They do not represent a single client in establishing client's boundaries but rather they represent society at large. Every boundary monument marks a boundary between at least two adjoining properties. Surveyors therefore must be fai...r and impartial to all parties; they cannot give undue consideration to their clients' interests and disregard those of their clients' neighbors and potential adversaries. Here, their responsibilities are quite different than those of doctors, lawyers or accountants, each of whom normally need act only with the interest of a single party in mind. They must preserve in all their work, the judicial mind and impartial attitude of an arbitrator rather than the bias of an advocate. In cases of litigation, the land surveyor's testimony will be accepted as evidence to which the greatest weight is attached. See more

Public Awareness: Did you know? By law, only a licensed Saskatchewan Land Surveyor can determine or establish property boundaries in Saskatchewan. Saskatchewan Land Surveyors are educated individuals. They will have taken up to 4 years of Education and/or then must have received the required course credits through the Canadian Board of Examiners for Professional Surveyors (CBEPS). After completing the CBEPS requirements, the individual must then article to a Saskatchewan Land... Surveyor (SLS) and pass provincial exams to become a SLS. It is not a simple process to become a SLS. There is a lot of data and information that Land Surveyors must stay up to date on, thus, they continuously have Education Credits that they must also complete. There may be companies and individuals that advertise/offer Land Survey services that do not have a SLS on staff. To ensure that you, the public, are getting the proper services, please find a SLS through our website at www.slsa.sk.ca and click on Survey Companies. This will ensure that you receive the proper information. Our mandate is to protect you, the public. Saskatchewan Land Surveyors are unbiased professionals and determine property boundaries based on evidence and applicable legislation.
