Because rabies can be transmitted between humans and animals, all dogs, cats and ferrets three months of age and older are required by law in Ontario to be vaccinated against the disease. To learn more about rabies and your pet, visit bit.ly/2QKlCEv.

"It is NOT your vets job to train your dog to be handled" You decide to bring an animal into your home. You need to learn basic husbandry. Not just for when thi...ngs go wrong & the only experience your dog has is a traumatic one. Things all dogs should learn from a young age - How to be tethered. At some stage in your dogs life, they will have to & need to be tethered. Start off with small sessions of tying dog on a short leash to a stable point. Reward, step away, reward, step away. Repeat until they are happy to just stay there while you walk around doing other things. This teaches patience. This can be done from 1 minute to 15mins. Sometimes longer depending on how the dog copes. Having their bodies rubbed down & to be brushed. Start off with short sessions of touch, treat, touch, treat, all the while reading the dogs tolerance levels. Eventually phase out treats to an intermittent shedule. Learn to read when to carry on brushing, rubbing dogs muscles down or to give your dog a break. Having their nails cut & paw pads checked. Understandably there will be dogs that need to be sedated for this, but the majority is just a lack of actually practicing. Weekly you should be handling your dogs feet, tapping their nails with the clippers, learning how to identify what is the quik & what is the nail so you know where to cut. Desensitizing your dog to nail clipper sounds, dremel sounds. Most dogs are very tolerant of their feet being touched when done on a regular basis. Having their teeth checked & inspected. Alot of dogs suffer from tooth issues such as broken teeth, embedded stick or bone fragments, that go unidentified until a behavioral or medical issue arises. If you are unable to check your dogs mouth, you should be looking to book into your vet at a minimum of once a year to get that looked into. Having their ears inspected, cleaned & handled. Gently rub around your dogs ears, gently bend back the tip of their ear, inspect inside, treat. Repeat. Gently wipe out exterior with a soft wipe, practice holding the ear cleaner bottle by them without tipping in, treat, build up to adding a few drops of cleaner to their ear, massage, let them shake it out & wipe. Muzzle conditioning. Every dog should be comfortable wearing a muzzle. Even the best dogs in pain can bite. Don't wait until an emergency to shove one on your dog, further stressing them out. (There are muzzle conditioning videos in our video section). Don't wait until an emergency to help your dog to tolerate handling. Your vet/groomer has enough things to think about & deal with, without having to worry that you can't handle your dog & they are put at risk. Help them to help each other.

To all of my cancelled appointments, please be patient! I am receiving calls, messages via phone, email and inbox constantly even my personal messages and email.... This takes time from me grooming when I have to respond to each and everyone. I send out updates as a whole to inform everyone to save some time In hopes it is received well. I am working as hard as humanly possible to get everyone back on track as a solo groomer here, like any that can only do X amount of dogs in a 8-10 hour day, with the unfortunate reality in the back of my head that we will be shut down again in coming weeks/months. I need everyone to continue hanging in there with patience, wait for my call. This allows me to put more time into the actual Grooming and not on the reception side so I can get as many done as physically possible in a day. I am even working today ( Family Day ) Get out there in the fresh air today and enjoy your day with your dogs and family! See more

UPDATE: This will be effective as of Monday February 8th at The Clip Joint. We are permitted to provide EMERGENCY GROOMING SERVICES ONLY! NOT regular business.... Pet Groomers are currently only permitted to provide services that are strictly necessary to prevent an animal from requiring foreseeable and reasonably imminent veterinary care. This means pet grooming businesses may only provide grooming services to treat conditions that would cause pain or skin disease if left untreated. This Includes: -Conditions of severe matting close to the skin -Matting with underlying dermatitis -Ongoing skin dermatitis -Overgrown nails affecting mobility or causing pain Services must be provided by appointment only with one appointment for one animal at a time, and through curbside pickup and drop off the animal only. Grooming services that do not fit within this category are not permitted at this time. Will be operating with STRICT Procedures and updated Policies as safety is TOP PRIORITY! Standard grooming rates will not apply at this time and have been replaced with an Emergency Grooming Rate Services that are being offered at this time are limited to: -Nail Trims -Eye, pad, or sanitary shaving -Spot shaving mats -Emergency Shave downs and/or medicated baths If you feel that your dog meets the requirements for Emergency Grooming please CALL the shop and leave a message with your Dogs NAME, Last Name, & PHONE Number. *You may be asked to provide pictures to help determine the emergency status* I wish we were allowed to offer more! But at least it’s something! I understand how frustrating this all is, I feel it immensely, I wish I could operate with regular curb-side, as I feel it can be done safely. But for now it is what it is. Please, please be patient as I hope to resume to somewhat normal business soon! Stay safe everyone. I thank you again for you hanging in there, your continued business, fur-babies and kindness!

There was an announcement made today and I’m awaiting on the fine details regarding REOPENING! It’s not as simple as just start booking and grooming, there are ...many new restrictions. Please be patient, I understand that everyone needs in ASAP but I have a waiting list that will take months to get through. Bombarding with calls and messages does not help during this stressful time. I will be in contact as soon as I can. With deep passion I will be working as hard as humanly possible to get everyone back on track. I thank you all for hanging in there, I appreciate your business, your fur babies and kindness. Stay tuned and stay safe. Crystal

As you know, we are heading into lockdown again as of the 26th. Unfortunately Groomers are not on the essential list in Ontario. Even through our hard efforts... of operating curb-side proving we can safely work. By-law we will be limited to provide grooming only when there is an immediate health or welfare need as of then. So there will be changes to the fully booked January schedule of pre- booked appointments. I will be in contact. However I am going to wait until after Christmas to make calls, as things are ever changing, and try to enjoy some family time for now. See more

Owning a dog is a great responsibility. In addition to unconditional love, responsible dog owners commit to ensuring their pet is always provided with the basic... standards of care, as outlined in the Provincial Animal Welfare Services (PAWS) Act. Cats require plenty of mental and physical stimulation to stay happy and healthy. If you have a cat, be sure to equip your home with cat trees, window perches, scratching posts and toys to keep them occupied throughout the day. #HappyHealthyCatMonth

Do you know the difference between rabies and distemper in Ontario? Rabies is a serious disease that can infect any mammal, including humans. Once symptoms appe...ar, the disease is almost always fatal. In animals, symptoms may include agitation, aggression, lack of coordination, partial paralysis, muscle spasms, drooling, choking or barking sounds, frothing at the mouth, and avoiding water. Rabies infects the brain and is transmitted via saliva (bite) or by contact with brain matter. Ontario works hard to control and prevent rabies to keep wildlife, pets and people safe. Through control efforts, MNRF has contained the recent outbreak of rabies in southern Ontario to within 65 km of the first case detected in 2015, and the total number of cases has been declining by about 50% each year since 2016. Distemper is common in raccoons and many of the symptoms are similar to those of rabies. Symptoms may include: respiratory infection, runny nose, watery eyes, vomiting, diarrhea, wandering aimlessly in a circle, paralysis, disorientation, and other strange behaviour. It affects the immune system and is transmitted through contact with body fluids, saliva, air droplets or droppings. Distemper cannot be transmitted to humans but can spread to some domestic animals. Distemper is common and widespread in the environment, making it impractical to vaccinate wildlife for distemper. The disease is more likely to occur when wildlife populations are large or concentrated. MNRF and the Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative are conducting on-going research to determine the temporal/seasonal changes in distemper prevalence in raccoons in Ontario. Pet owners should make sure that their animals receive annual vaccinations against both distemper and rabies. For more information please visit Ontario.ca/rabies #MNRFScience

Cats instinctively mask their pain, which makes it difficult to identify if something is wrong. Regular checkups with your veterinarian can help ensure that your cat is healthy, as well as detect and prevent illnesses. This #TakeYourCatToTheVetDay, remember to book your cat's annual exam.

Use your Manners! The Sniff test - Stop doing that! The sniff test - a badly engrained habit that society has been taught, without a clear understanding of ...what they're actually doing. When you reach out towards a dog, you are using body pressure AT them, giving them no time to assess whether you are safe & whether they require further investigation to pick up your information. You are forcing an interaction of a relationship that hasn't had time to develop. To some dogs, this is quite rude & the reason a lot of dogs snap at or bite people. This can cause alot of behavioral issues because of layered stress due to forced interactions. If they are on lead, they have no where to go if they are sensitive to spacial pressure, so can end up shutting down, shying away or snapping at your hand so you back off. This is an example of how a dog is now using pressure to turn off pressure & make you back off so they aren't so stressed. People think by offering your hand it can give the dog time to sniff to know you're friendly... they can sniff without being forced to sniff your hand.Their noses are far more superior than ours & they don't need close contact forced upon them to smell you. Some dogs might not want to know you. You have no relationship with them and that's perfectly fine. They aren't your dog so you don't need to touch them or steal pats for your own satisfaction. If you are meeting a dog, what should you do? Ask the owner if you can interact with their dog. Not all people want strangers touching their dogs. Especially strangers who you are unlikely to see again. Stand up straight & relaxed, with your hands at your side. Ignore the dog & talk to the owner. Don't stare at the dog & don't try to force an interaction by going in for a pat. If the dog wants to know you, it will come up to you & sniff around. Usually they will move away & then come back for a second sniffathon. Some dogs will bunt your hands & wag their tails, which are good signs that you're likely an accepted new friend. Give them a few slow pats down their back (NOT THEIR HEAD) & then stop. Is the dog happy? Has it accepted your interaction? This will determine whether you can give it more pats. This is a more stress free option for dogs & a reason why in consultations we can develop a good level of trust, especially with fearful dogs & aggressive dogs, without a bunch of negative side effects from forced interactions.
