"Taslim's story encapsulates both how the country's Muslim community actively tried to stop the emergence of radical elements in their midst, and how the authorities failed to recognise repeated warning signs ahead of the Easter attacks. "Taslim's family say, despite his injuries, he is able to understand what they say to him, and occasionally, to scribble responses. When he learned of the Easter attacks, his wife says he wrote her a message and began to cry, "I told you something like this could happen."

It has been ten years since the civil conflict in Sri Lanka ended. It was a bittersweet ending. While most of the country celebrated the end of a 30 year conflict, the end was the cost of thousands of innocent Tamil lives. To this day the exact numbers are disputed which speaks to a bigger problem. Ten years in, there are still families searching for their missing loved ones. Closure has eluded many in the North and many in the Diaspora. As Sri Lanka faces new wounds in ...the recent weeks, a reflection of why the civil conflict began, whether it has been resolved despite the end of a war and providing closure for those impacted is key to ensure that the entire country, together, with compassion, can move this island towards a brighter future. As we reflect on this tenth anniversary, our thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones on this day. SLWB, May 18, 2019 https://www.aljazeera.com//10-years-on-sri-lanka-grapples-

The terrorist attack on Easter Sunday in Sri Lanka For Release on April 22, 2019 TORONTO, Canada -- Sri Lankans Without Borders (SLWB) condemn in the strongest terms the heinous and cowardly terrorist attacks on Easter Sunday, April 21st 2019. The bombings, executed (according to official statements) by a local militant Islamist organization that targeted multiple Catholic churches and hotels, resulted in a devastating count of 290 deaths and 450 injured persons. It is the i...sland nation's deadliest violence since the end of the civil war in 2009. We express our deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims, the Sri Lankan Christian community and all others affected by this tragedy. We wish a full and speedy recovery to those injured. We call upon the government of Sri Lanka to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation and bring all persons accountable for this atrocity to justice. SLWB condemns racism in all its forms, including hate acts of retaliation. These acts have no place in any religion nor country. Recognizing diversity as our strength, we urge all Sri Lankans to stand together to combat extremism and violence for the betterment of us all. For media inquiries please email [email protected]
