June 15, 2020 S.M.A.A. Sarnia Minor Athletic Association It is with great sadness and regret that Sarnia Minor Athletic Association { S.M.A.A.} main board has made the decision to not operate the 2020 season for Baseball, Girls Fastball and Football.... This difficult decision did not come lightly. After a lengthy discussion and deliberation, Your S.M.A.A. Board feel strongly that the safety and wellness of our players, coaches, umpires, volunteers and families are deeply important, and the risks involved with COVID 19 virus are far too great. The City of Sarnia will not be preparing the playing fields and the washroom facilities may not re-open this season. Please understand that we have over 800 players members in the system within S.M.A.A. . For those of you that have paid for this year’s registration we have come up with 3 options for you to choose from. With the limited operating hours of our office, processing could take up to 4 weeks depending on the option you choose. Hello! My plan was to post an update yesterday. I apologize for the delay. As a committee; We decided that we are going to hold off until the 2nd week of June before we make any final decision. Based on the last communication from the city - They plan to re-evaluate within the first couple of weeks in June. ... We are working hard at salvaging a season, even if it’s for 6 weeks. We feel this can be done if we can get approval from the city. We will continue to provide updates and will continue to monitor information from Lambton Public Health Officials. Hello Baseball Community Unfortunately; We have no new information regarding the upcoming season. Baseball Ontario (with whom we are insured through) sent out an email stating that there would be no baseball scheduled for the month of May.... The city has confirmed that all parks and recreation will remained closed until further notice. The committee had an online meeting last week and discussed that it was just too early to make any decisions about cancelling the season. We will meet again in the next couple of weeks and put together an update for everyone. We hope everyone is staying safe and healthy. Please remember to practice social and physical distancing.
