Oopsie. Not really farm related (or is it?) but we need a good chuckle now and then.

The NEW Jan/Feb 2020 issue is in the mail and on the way to retail stores and newsstands - watch for it! Here is a teaser of the cover. ALSO, there is an amazing sounding recipe that takes maybe ten minutes to put together. Of course it is full of butter and sweetness for the holiday season, or any season for that matter. Check it out. #farming #farmlife

An interesting read about using trees as sources of staple foods, even flours and sugars. Tell us what you think. #farming #farmlife https://bit.ly/2s7kZJp

Here's an interesting idea from Italy. Might not work to well with bigger flocks but if you have a smaller number of sheep and lambs maybe rev up the sewing machine and give it a shot.

If you farm in the Kitimat BC area and can help them out please do so. Hello, Kitimat Farmers! We need more farms in Kitimat to join Loop Loop Resources is dedicated to moving grocery store food waste away from the land fill, and to farm animals. It is a win-win situation for all. We need more farms in Kitimat so that the Kitimat Save-On Foods can begin this program. It involves a once-weekly pick-up of all the food waste (not garbage) from the grocery store. Commitment me...ans picking up everything (about 6 totes of various dairy, meat, produce etc, combined, not each) on your day; submitting an online report of what was picked up (easy-peasy, and very quick); and then feeding out lots of yummy produce etc to your critters. If you feel there might be too much food for your particular circumstance, you can share the pick-up day with one or more other small farms. Here is the Loop page where you can check out more information: https://www.facebook.com/LoopResource/ Thanks! A longtime reader sent this story and we thought it was so lovely we had to ask her if we could share it. She said please do so here you go... My husband and I own a small parcel of farmland (35 acres) in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario. Years ago, we adopted a Shepherd mix from the local Humane Society because we were losing chickens to fox and coyotes. Shelby had been brought in as a stray and was about 3 years old at the time. Her presence on the land immediately made a diffe...rence. In the last ten years, we have seen a steady increase in bear presence and activity on the farm. Last year, I had the unfortunate experience of being charged by a black bear sow because our paths crossed and she felt her cubs were threatened. When the bear charged, Shelby, now 13 years old, placed herself a couple of feet in front of me and stood her ground to protect me. I was spared any contact but Shelby sustained major life threatening injuries as a result of the attack. The staff at the Animal Hospital where Shelby was treated submitted her name to the Purina Hall of Fame for recognition. Recently, in early June, Shelby was inducted into the Hall of Fame and received a medal of bravoury for her courage and loyalty. A video of Shelby's story was also produced and posted on YouTube. https://youtu.be/SsRQeM6PjUk Good farm dogs are worth their weight in gold and they may be as near as your local Humane Society. I am heartbroken to share that Shelby passed away this month. Her loyalty and vigilance on the property is sorely missed. Louise
