The leek patch was a complete flop this year.. Literally. Every one of them bolted too. This may have something to do with how unusually cool this season was, and also the extreme fluctuations in temperature. It seems like they got tricked into thinking that they survived a winter, so decided to flower, but because they lacked a whole years worth of growth, they didn't have the strength and stability to hold up its own flowers, so just flopped over. Its too bad that they all ...did so poorly because we were really looking forward to an abundance of leeks this winter. We tried cooking with these, but the cores are too hard to be palatable. This is the last Achocha harvest of the season. We really value this crop for being able to produce an abundance of fresh food until mid November. Its such a reliable and resilient plant, and the fruits are so delicious. We really like them stuffed too. Capsicum Praetermissum is a really tasty wild pepper. Its a part of the baccatum complex, and shares some similar flavours. They're very delicious, and juicy too. The plants are exceptionally sturdy, and the flowers are very beautiful too. The daylight hours are getting short, so I think this may be the last round of broccoli. Some varieties tend to die off after a couple harvests, but others like this one (Arcadia) will keep producing regularly until frost.
