Small Town Artillery 30.11.2020

Today is the birthday of our entire horn section! Yup - both Jocelyn & Kaylar came into this world on November 17th. Both of them decided to be brass phenoms on their own. Little did they know that someday they would play together and their blended tones would flatten buildings, break logs, and wow people (yes, wow is a verb) across western Canada. Here's a short video of them shredding, our homage to the unstoppable duo.

The superheroes who made No Teacher possible. The response to the song is very moving and healing. We love you! Be safe out there & keep listening to provincial guidelines as best you can. We are working on some more new music for you too. Big love.

Tom here. 10 years ago, a young man from Kaslo named Ben Walker died of a heroin overdose. He was my best bud in high school. I wrote the first four lines to this song then, but never finished it, just carried it around with me alongside his memory. This summer, our little mountain town lost another young soul. Tybearius - charismatic, open, hard-working, a prominent member of Search & Rescue and Kaslo Fire Dept. Good chef too. Funny as f**k. I was holed up on Saltspring Isla...nd trying to finish up a batch of demos for the band. I heard news of Ty's passing - he hanged himself - and knew right away I'd be going home as soon as I could. There are around 900 souls in Kaslo year-round. About half of them filled the sides of main street last week as his photo was carried proudly by his friends in full formal dress, and his helmet was presented to his mother as the bagpipes played. To hold up a candle and find that anywhere you looked, you caught they eye of someone else you probably knew, and certainly who was greiving too... to hear the town hall bells sound later that night... it is so healing to share grief with a whole community. Kaslo, I love you. I finished this song the day after I heard of his passing, given to me by the spirit of Ben, completed by the spirit of Ty. I made my way home and reached out to a few wonderous kootenay artists to help bring it to life. It's dedicated to the excellent young man Ty was, and to everyone struggling to make sense of the aftermath. We're heading into a BC winter, and it's been a hard year. Please reach outward beyond your pride or confusion if you are in need of a helping hand. "come together, speak your mind there's nothing so bad that I'd leave your side there's nothing so bad that's worth taking your life" Here we are at The Langham - Kaslo Cultural Centre. Performing is Carly Alexandra, Tenise Marie, Kevin John. On camera is Neil Timothy Johnson. On tech & audio mix, Christopher Cullen. Thank you all so much for making time and space for this. A special thanks to Paul Grace-Campbell for allowing us into the local theatre. Here's a few kootenay-based resources if you're feeling low & need to reach. Kaslo highschool setlist gold. 2007. Yes that’s a @thekillers cover to open the show. And an original rap song to close it down. Before we were STA, we performed as Carnival Red. And these were our flagship tunes. #dayones #smalltown #highschoolshow #kaslo
