Research ahead of adding a puppy to your family is crucial. Adding a puppy is like adding a new baby to your home, they are a lot of work and require a lot of your time. Please pass the below link on to anyone considering adding a puppy to their family. I'm not discouraging puppy ownership, but rather encouraging research and understanding ahead of time so that people have a better idea of what they are getting into. https://smartdogsk9milton.ca//11/16/should-you-get-a-puppy/

Update: Our classes are still a go on Monday and beyond. Masks are mandatory, we have our measures in place and our class sizes are limited with no spectators. Looking forward to meeting the new group on Tuesday and seeing our Monday students!

Time to get yer vitamin D on! First off, take some time to get out in the woods. It’s good for you, it’s good for your dogs, it’s good for your kids. Secondly, nobody that I know wants to heel their dog through the woods. A hike should be relaxing, stimulating, fun and a way to burn off energy and unwind. Get yourself a long line (15ft minimum - for the dogs, not the kids) and grab a harness or flat collar (and some delicious rewards). This gives you the ability to control ...your dog at a distance whether the line is dragging or held. It allows your dog to be a dog, and it offers you the opportunity to work on things like recalls and check-ins. It is a wonderful step in the process of training to off leash freedom. It also protects other people/dogs and wildlife (NEVER let your dog just run up to others), as you have immediate control where needed. And, if you are still working on teaching your dog loose leash manners, the switch of equipment and the difference of scenery typically doesn’t impede this training. So don’t strain yourself, don’t add stress to your dog, relax, give them some space and freedom and enjoy the benefits that being in nature has to offer ... minus the ticks ... there’s no benefit to ticks. Do your research, know what your puppy is bred for (regardless of if it’s a mix or a purebred) as those traits come hard wired. Malinois don’t bite, do they?

Great common sense video that you should watch all the way through. Wise words from one of our favourite trainers.
