SmartICE Mittimatalik 28.01.2021

Hello everyone!

SmartICE Mittimatalik 15.01.2021

Attached you'll find a copy of the latest trip going north floe edge, on the map you can see where the leads are and where to cross to get to other side, you can also check other things in SIKU.org on whats going on in and around the community and see pictures of what is being posted. Once I got to the edge and I wanted to explore the area more but when I got my snowmobile started I noticed that the tracks were starting to shave off and that's when I decided to head back to t...own slowly. I got as far south west of Bylot Island and my snowmobile was no longer mobile because of the track and lucky I was able to get a cell signal holding my arm up in the sky because I was trying the handheld radio and was getting no luck with it. This may be the end of the season for Pond Inlet SmartICE unless I get the parts I need to keep going. one more thing I wanted to add was that my sensor on the qamutik started acting up too and I tried figuring out why and I need to get one sent up to me as soon as possible from my SmartICE team down south. The floe edge is at the end of the land on the east end of Bylot now and when travelling during the day when the sun is beaming down on the ice, I would like for those who are out there to be cautious and read the conditions as you are out there. I was only able to get a SAT image and MODIS image was no good because of the clouds. I had marked aajuraks but you would have to see them on the SIKU.org page. If you don't have a SIKU.org account I suggest you do and there are many tools to use in the App. and it is a great way to communicate nowadays.
