Customizing a a pair of sneaks I bought last year to hide the colour of used to be white but I washed them and now they’re kind of yellow. Lefty will be stars in purple (most likely). I used Sharpie Fabric markers for this little project; the markers work great... no bleeding at all! I don’t recommend regular sharpies for fabric as they do bleed lots, but they are good on the plastic. Have fun with doing your own pair, or I can do a pair for you!

In the studio again today making cuffs for Chrstmas! Also going to me making small leather bags, leather ponchos with African batik fabric lining, satin lining, and some with up-cycled mink collars and muffs (old fur coats-thanks to donations). If you have any special colour requests, let me know! Cuffs are $25-$45 depending on decoration. Makeup bags small $30, large $45. All the colours of the rainbow and easily customized design options available as well!

8 years ago I made my very first handbag. I can't believe it's been that long already!!

So many projects on the go right now, I can't decide which one to do first! I'm making a new belly dance costume, a new custom shoulder bag, doing some leather costume repairs and re-works, and I have a bunch of clothing repairs to do. There's no time for a collection until I get all of this done. I'm feeling happily overwhelmed!

I received a commission today for a fantastically fashionable Ottawa woman. I enjoy commissions because they make me push my boundaries and be daring with design. I'll be making a hard-bottomed, soft topped, fringe handbag. I can't wait to get started on the design. But first, I have to clean up my jewelry collection. My cat knocked the holder to the floor the second I finished putting the last thing she had knocked down back in place. Damn cat!!

Hand tooled basket weave pattern, hand-riveted, vegetable tanned leather with Eco water-based dye. Hand polished with bone instead of gloss finish. Interior is a commercial blank (nobody is perfect- I haven't mastered a wallet pattern yet!). $175. Sold

I'm so excited! I've decided to do an entire line of just fringe bags - in all sorts of colours! There are a ton of ways to do them, and I shall. The difference with my soft leather bags is that I cut the fringe myself, along with everything else. By hand.

No design decisions are final yet, but we are most certainly combining the fabric that was sent to me from Tanzania, with some recently purchased hides and furs, as well as some supplies I brought home with me from Italy. I just know that it will be a smashing success... Just as soon as I get a couple of my sewing machines repaired.

Another exciting development for the little Big Swallow collection launch; we have found a professional beadwork from Standoff who will be able to create any designs we throw at her. We are meeting her for the first time on Monday, but we have heard nothing but good reviews about Greta Many Bears.

It's official! I will be launching a new collection at Grey Eagle Casino on Wednesday, June 10th. I'm very excited about this project.

Having a meeting with the Grey Eagle Casino (Tsuu 'Tina Nation) on Thursday. Looks like they want to carry my handbags and accessories. However, it's not going to be under SM Designs. It will be little Big Swallow - a majority Aboriginal owned company and we will be making native inspired designs. They will feature Traditional Blackfoot symbols and have the story attached. The ancient and proud history of the Blackfoot confederacy will be respected, and our objective is to increase knowledge about our indigenous population here in Alberta.
