Hi Guys, I’ve been missing in action lately but wanted to share some ONLINE SCHOOLTips for younger kids. Here’s what a 5 yearold might look like during online learning and it’s perfectly okay! I don’t think it’s fair to expect young children to sit at 90 degree angles in a chair at a table/desk and pay full attention for extended periods of time. Letting your child have some freedom of movement can make the learning experience so much more positive! Oh and the sunglasses and PJ pants in one of the photos, sure why not?!? #onlineschool #onlineschooling #improveattention #remotelearning2020

A short interview with Vivian Yau, the owner of Smile Speech Therpay and an experienced Speech-Language Pathologist on how COVID-19 pandemic has changed her speech therapy services and plans for re-opening. Thank you Joseph Di Fonzo who is supporting local business owners for the interview (https://jdifonzo.kwrealty.com/).

Hi Guys, Thanks to Joseph DiFonzo (www.josephdifonzo.ca) for taking the time to set up interviews to support local small business owners during these times that have been a challenge for many of us. This is a video that he made for our local Toronto neighbourhood group where I am talking about our speech-language services as well as plans for re-opening in-person appointments. I would be happy to hear personally from you and you can e-mail me directly at: [email protected] if you have any questions. #supportlocal #supportsmallbusiness

These are helpful books for all kids learning to understand the many changes and issues in regards to our present times with COVID-19. The visuals and the explanations in the books are clear and well thought out. Thank you for such timely resources!

A really great article from The Hanen Centre with strategies on how to continue to support language and social interaction with children even if we are wearing masks and supporting physical distancing. Some tips include: talking louder and over enunciating if you have a mask on adding gestures and visuals to help convey your message comment and describe your emotions since children might not be able to read your facial expressions behind a mask use your eyes to convey emo...tion (e.g. wide eyes for surprise, frowning with your eyebrows, etc.) https://www.hanen.org//Childcare-After-COVID-19--Balancing

Hi Guys, I’ve always loved to sew but haven’t had the time for it but still have a giant stash of fabric and notions. I’m putting my dusty sewing machine and skills to work to help make masks for Michael Garron Hospital. These are meant for the use of hospital visitors on entry and patients being discharged home and the community as disposable, surgical masks are running low. DISCLAIMER: They are not as effective as even surgical masks, but desperate times calls for different... measures. Please help support our health care workers and hospitals! Here’s the link to the hospital’s request with sewing instructions embedded https://www.mghf.ca/mgh1000masks . . . . . #mgh1000masks #covid_19 #supporthealthcareworkers #masksneeded #sewingmasksforhealthcare #covidcommunitychallenge See more

I gave my kids their usual March Break week of relaxation even amidst the COVID-19 stress. Next week, we need some semblance of normalcy back, even though they still won’t be going back to school. I saw some amazing schedule ideas online, but made personalized ones for each of my kids and more like a goal-based, reward chart. I am a Speech-Language Pathologist after all! For my 5 yearold who is still learning to read, there were great icons on Word to help him understand his ...goals. If you would like a copy of the Word document version, shoot me an email ([email protected]). Hope everyone’s week goes well! . . . . #kidschedule #rewardchart #calendar #visuals #backtoschool #homeschooling See more
