Today I've been thinking a lot about resiliency. I am no stranger to resiliency. I've had to be resilient to get through some extremely difficult times in my life. People have praised my resiliency, strength and will to keep pushing forward. I wear resiliency like a badge of honor and praise others for their resiliency in the face of their own struggles, saying things like "wow you are so resilient". But I wonder, does resiliency run out? What if I don't want to be resilient ...anymore, then what? What if I don't want to be strong and right now what I really need to do is crumble and not feel like I have to succeed and pull through given these extraordinary circumstances? I've always relied on myself to get through life, with little support from others. But now things are different. I have support around me and I don't want to lead anymore. I want others to step in, whose resiliency is not depleted and their strength is something I can lean on, be propped up by so that I can allow myself to feel the weight and brunt of what this pandemic has brought into my life or should I say, has taken away from my life. To heal, they say you have to name it to claim it. If I had to name it I would say that my ability to be resilient, put on a brave face, a happy smile and walk with a spring in my step has temporarily been extinguished. If you ask if I am fine, instead of saying yes and pretending that things are good, my answer is no I'm not okay and things are not good right now. To deny this is to deny my own feelings, to bury the pain which at some point will rear it's dirty little head in relationships, low self-esteem or self-worth. No, it's better to face the reality of how you feel and be bold and say when things are shit, they are shit and stop pretending they're not if this is how you feel. What is needed right now is not resiliency but compassion, self-compassion, kindness and gentleness to the self. If anyone else is feeling like this then maybe my words will help you. This might be a time to be gentle with yourself. If you are used to being a top performer, go-getter, Type A and self-proclaimed perfectionist you will struggle more then most. Lean into the reality of what is, expect less, do less and ride the wave of whatever is next to come because there will certainly be more to come before this is all said and done. Living with uncertainly, fear, anxiety, low mood and the whatever else might be coming your way is hard. Reach out. Talk. Be honest with yourself about how you are feeling and be honest with others. Together, we will get through this. Right now though I need to honor myself, my feelings and lean on others.

Good morning smilers. It's been one week since our orders to shut and we wanted to check in and see how everyone is holding up. We will see many of you of Monday as we pivot for the time being to opening the studio for your own individual workouts. You will have lots of space to come to your thing and let's hope that we can return to group classes soon. Please be gentle with yourself. Find compassion for yourself and its okay to feel like you are not as productive or motivat...ed as you usually are. If you are feeling anxious, fearful or notice low mood, lean in and try not to fight or resist yourself. It's okay to feel because we are experiencing something that is protracted with uncertainty. Most importantly if you are struggling to cope maybe this is a good time to reach out for some mental health support. Our smiling hearts are always here for you and our family will together again soon.

Her fitness journey started when she was 18 years old while being her mom’s caregiver and realizing movement is an essential part of our lives and wellbeing. As the years went by, she continued group fitness classes which then led her towork up the courage to take a personal training course. Her passion for yoga begun when she was on a personal mission of self-discovery and signed up for yoga teacher training. During the program, her life was forever changed as she discovered a sense of purpose and a desire to share what she’s learned. Renee is now a trauma informed yoga teachertrained in Hatha, Kundalini, Yin and Kids Yoga and wants to share thepatienceof yoga in a way that bolsters a sense of self-love.
