Several questions have come in about our milk; and I’ll try to clarify. Our milk is pasteurized whole milk, that is not homogenized and has no additives. The glass bottles are available for purchase in the cheese shop. The bottle is 1.87 litres, and costs $5. To fill it with milk costs $4. You are responsible to clean the bottles thoroughly yourself, by hand in warm suds and a drop of bleach, if you like. Do not put the bottles in the dishwasher because they are not cleaned properly in the dishwasher. The milk vending machine is only operating on the days the cheese shop is open; Thursdays Fridays, and Saturdays. Come to Smits and Cow farm cheese; 5787 Lickman Road to try our delicious farm milk. It’s almost the end of the year, time to turn another page in the book. This week we are open on Thursday, New Year’s Eve, til 3:00; and Saturday 9-5. CLOSED JANUARY 1, New Year’s Day On Thursday, Dec 31, Lisa plans to make oliebollen This is a Dutch tradition for the last day of the year. Oliebollen are a deep fried fritter with raisins, cranberries and apples in them, and dusted with icing sugar. They are delicious! Come on over to the cheese shop and pick out some wonderful cheese and yogurt for your small New Years eve celebration; and enjoy one of Lisa’s delicious oliebollen; it’s a sweet way to end this year

Christmas is only 5 weeks away, folks! Are your gatherings cancelled because of COVID? Our baskets are all custom made, are in a handmade wooden gift box, and tied with a handmade bow. Our most popular basket sizes are $50, $75, and $100. They contain mainly cheese, and we usually add crackers, a picked product, some chocolate or cookies, a bottle of sparkling juice and other goodies. Contents vary from year to year. Their coffee is delicious, with a smooth and rich flavour. Tanja’s rustic bread, Goluik custom metal, little homestead in the valley (wonderful soaps) Caron chainsaw carving, The sausage roll, and the Frying Dutchman will be cooking up a delicious lunch! If you are a lover of goat cheese, we have a treat for you! We have a delicious selection of goat Gouda cheeses, plain and herb cheese. Did you know that goat milk is naturally homogenized? The fat molecules are already broken down, and the milk will not separate like cows milk does. Goats have a much simpler digestive system, much like a human digestive system. Cows have a much more complex digestive system, with 4 stomachs necessary for digestion. This is why often humans can digest goat milk and cheese more easily than cows milk products. Part of our busy summer was the renovation of the old heifer barn. It’s had a complete overhaul, new concrete floor, manure cleaning system, new penning. The heifers were moved back in last week, and seem seem very pleased with their new quarters!

Snack packs are always the perfect fit! Birthday party, family get together, easy take along snack for any occasion. 4-5 flavours of cheese all cut up and ready to eat. Just add a few good crackers, also available in our store, put it together on a serving plate, and enjoy, or just take off the lid and enjoy on your way home!

Do you loveNasi Goreng? It is a delicious Indonesian fried rice dish that is very popular in The Netherlands. It’s easy, delicious and nutritious! If you are interested in cooking this delicious dish, come on in to Smits farm cheese to pick up the spices, ketjap Manis, (sweet soy sauce) and Atjar Tjampoer, (a delicious side dish to accompany the Nasi Goreng) We also have ground pork, if that is your choice of meat to use in the dish.

We have a wonderful grocery section in our store, mainly imported from The Netherlands. In this section, we have lots of vegetables in glass jars, jams, pickles, pickled onions, picalilly, and a delicious selection of cookies! On the other side we have senseo coffee, spices for meat preparation, nasi and bami goreng items, lots of soup mixes, dutch rusks, pancake mix etc. Come on in and treat yourself to something extra to compliment your Smits and Cow cheese, yogurt, quark......

Do you remember the old milk cans that the farmers used to store the milk in? They were kept in an inground concrete holding pit filled with cold water to keep the milk cold. The farmers would then hoist them up on the milk stand on the day that the milk was picked up. We have a beautiful new version of the old cans, also filled with delicious cold milk, available from our milk vending machine on Thursday, Friday or Saturday. Come and treat yourself to fresh cold farm milk; pasteurized; but not homogenized. It’s a step into the past; the way milk should taste
