At the beginning of the pandemic we started the 'snapd Music Series' where we were able to support musicians as well as entertain people at home. Since we are currently unable to host these great performances, Manny will instead interview each artist and catch up with what they are up too! Included are some highlights of their livestream performances from our Giggin’ Live band events. Enjoy Manny D interviewing from our Buzz 505 studio, and Lou Moore joining us from home!... The children were nestled all snug in their beds, while visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads. Southlake’s amazing NICU nurses dressed up our littlest patients for a holiday photoshoot for their families. One of our nurses knitted these little hats for the babies to go home with.

Well done and thanks Chris Ablett!
The OPP family is filled with many interesting people with unique stories. However, in its 100+ year history, 1 of the more interesting recruit stories is the addition of husband & wife recruit couple Alvin & Jodi-Anne Morrison. The couple were hired at the same time, went through the Academy at the same time & have been posted to the Aurora Detachment. Alvin, a new recruit with the OPP but a 16 year Police Officer in Jamaica, indicates that he wanted to foster a strong r...elationship between the public & the police, having been able to do this back home. He has found a new home at the Aurora Detachment & indicates that the vision, mission & values of the organization are something that he is proud to be part of. Alvin indicates that it is exciting working with his wife, as it makes it easy to discuss what they deal with at work as they now have a common reference of experiences. Jodi-Anne is the daughter of Police Officers back home (as well as being married to one). Seeing their dedicated commitment to their communities inspired her to want to do her part & join the police service. Being relatively new to the country & without much family here, Jodi felt it was definitely a positive experience to have her husband to lean on during training. Congratulations to both of you & welcome to the OPP family! #community #welcome #opp #newrecruits #bettertogether Ontario Provincial Police Ontario Provincial Police - Highway Safety Division
As many of you may remember, last fall we hosted a fundraiser entitled "Walking for Woofs: A Service Dog Fundraiser" in support of Newmarket resident, Amanda Robar. Amanda has since then received her new service dog, Cable & her mother Melodie has provided us with some photos of Cable's journey thus far! As 2020 came to a close, they were thrilled to announce 107 donations had been made towards Cable’s training since they began their Go Fund Me campaign in July. They will con...tinue their fundraising campaign in 2021 to keep Cable’s training going, encouraging the community to continue to share their links & spread the word to help them reach their goal of $36,000. In a world that has been rough & unforgiving in many ways this past year, they have discovered the generosity, kindness & support of community, family & friends to help them through. Here are some photos of Cable's journey so far, including some photos from her time learning from Heather McLeod, the owner of RuffSport's & lead professional trainer who is coaching Cable to learn the tasks she will need to become Amanda’s next seizure-response dog. Resident Scott Kennedy was diagnosed with Cancer in 2017 and completed chemotherapy sessions at the beginning of COVID-19. Since then he has been looking for a way to give back to the community. As a resident of Newmarket since 2009, Scott enjoyed running through the town's streets and trails so he’s decided to use this experience to create a charity event and run a solo 50KM ultramarathon on Sunday Oct 11 from the Tannery. This will be a great event to raise funds and awareness for Yellow Brick House, and for the Town of Newmarket. Since the 50KM run covers most of Newmarket keep your eyes peeled for the man in the Superman shirt and cheer him on! What an inspiration.
