Look at what we managed to get our hands on! Thanks to tremendous support from the community, our town council, and the hard work of everyone involved with the fundraising over the last couple of years, we are finally able to retire our old falling apart Unit 204! We'll be making some modifications to this awesome landing craft over the next few weeks so that it's properly equipped as our Station 2 Fire & Rescue Boat based in Nestor Falls!
This shows how quickly an easy meal on the bbq can turn into a real life nightmare. Let's move our barbecues away from any walls or combustibles!
As always, be careful with your campfires.
If you've ever thought you put enough water on your campfire, but it wasn't "Dead Out", Look at this photo. If your friends have ever teased you about not needing to put that much water on your campfire before going to bed, Look at this photo. If "Its not going anywhere" has ever been uttered at the end of your bonfire, Look at this photo. ... Look at this photo. Hopes and dreams gone up in smoke and flames. Our entire community is thankful that no human lives were lost. Hopefully, we can take from this and learn the lessons that we need to: No campfire is out unless its "Dead Out". Leave no open flames unattended. Construct your fire pits/outdoor fire areas away from buildings and on noncombustible materials. Call 911 early. If you think you need emergency response, Dial 911. Don't wait until it is obvious or too late. It takes 3 to 5 minutes to process the call and send out a page. From there it takes 5 to 10 minutes for Firefighters to arrive at the station, 5 to 10 minutes to leave the hall in an apparatus, then travel time to the scene. All of this is time. Time that the fire uses to grow larger and more advanced. There are no fines or fees for calling 911, or having us attend. We can not help if we don't know you need us.
