What is culture fit and how is it evaluated? The term culture fit has been weaponized as a term to inform unsuccessful job applicants why they were not selected to move forward in an interview process. In essence, it means the candidate did not fit into the hiring managers idea of who the right person is, but they cannot explain deficiencies beyond that. Want to stand out as a candidate during your next interview? Ask some good questions. Asking questions during an interview is your opportunity to get to know more about the company you want to work with.... Obtaining more information helps you make an informed decision about things like expectations and how you would fit in with their culture. When you ask the interviewer questions it shows them you are interested in the company/position and that you have done your research. Companies are looking for the candidate that will make the best impact in the position, so if you can show them initiative early on it’s a good indicator of how you would fit in the role they are hiring for. With the vaccine roll-out set to ramp up in 2021, it's likely that we'll see employers transition their teams back to the office once it's safe. But, what if you've really enjoyed your time working from home? It's certainly worth a conversation with your boss and/or HR. It's likely that employers will now be more willing to be flexible with work environments. Much of the supports set up during the pandemic to allow employees to connect over videoconference or log in to servers remotely will likely stay in place. It's important to remember, however, that work/life balance is crucial. Be sure to still set yourself work hours with breaks just as you would if you were working from the office.
