Wow! One year ago today, Tuesday, May 15, 2018 we hosted the Opening Ceremonies for the Special Olympics Canada Bowling Championships! What an honour and an everlasting memory PEI Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics UPEI Athletics & Recreation

Our Co-Chairs, Cecil Villard and Cory Thomas proudly accepted the 2018 SCORE! Event of the Year Tuesday evening at the Sport PEI awards banquet.

We are honoured and proud to be announced as the recipients of the '2018 SCORE! Event of the Year' through the Sport PEI awards! Thank you to all the volunteers, athletes, coaches and sponsors; You all played a role in this award!! We look forward to celebrating with all the award nominees and recipients on February 26th. It was an honour this week for our Organizing Committee to receive the Special Olympics PEI 2017-18 President's Award at the Annual AGM & Awards. All the Committee members really cared about making this event feel important and world-class for every bowling athlete, coach and support staff. 3 sport venues. 2 athlete villages. 1 incredible week of sponsorship, celebrations and friendships for life! What a week!! It's only fitting that we end our week of thanks with PEI Mutual Insurance Company, a founding partner of Special Olympics PEI. They are a truly dedicated organization that believes in the Special Olympics movement and continue to go above and beyond. We wish all Special Olympics Canada athletes good health and happiness as they pursue their future sport and life endeavours. We know you will all live life with the athlete's oath in mind, "Let me win. But if I ca...nnot win, let me be brave in the attempt." We had a wonderful experience collaborating with Shoreline Design, in Georgetown PE, to create the beautiful, unique medals for the athletes! It takes an entire community to host a national event! The Tyne Valley Bowling Centre were an amazing host venue partner. Their passion and dedication to host a world class event in a small community of 250 people did not go unnoticed! We appreciate all their expertise and involvement from the beginning. Local 10-pin athlete Jenna and the Organizing Committee thanked Mike and the team today. What would a morning be without a stop at Tim Hortons?!! During our Special Olympics Canada Championships this was a frequent morning stop to support our volunteers, athletes and coaches. Locally, Janice and the entire DP Murphy Hotels team were a wonderful support to us; thank you for all you do every day to support local organizations in PEI! Special Olympics PEI

Our team continued to share a heartfelt appreciation to our partners today! 5-pin bowling athlete, Patti delivered a Next Level Cookie box to each organization for a team appreciation gift with their organization plaque! The gymnasium was transformed into an incredible amount of energy and discussed as one of the best Opening Ceremonies in Special Olympics Canada history!! Without amazing and dedicated volunteers, events like ours would not be possible. We had an amazing group of passionate Committee Members and community volunteers that made sure our event left a lasting memory for all the athletes to remember their PEI experience!! Everyone knows events are not possible without proper venues and people who do everything behind the scenes to make it run smoothly. A huge thank you to the Murphy's Pharmacies Community Centre for going above and beyond to make sure all the athletes, coaches & staff that visited PEI and competed in the 5-pin event had a wonderful week, filled with thousands of high fives!!! #NextLevelVenue
