Hey soccer community, something that is close to everyone’s heart, as I’m sure that everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer in some way. I personally do not know MacKenzie, but have teammates & friends that have played with, or against him, and have nothing but positive things to say about this young man. Please read below, even just sharing the story will help raise awareness. Link in bio to donate. Posted @withregram @vikeskickcancer Brain Cancer Awarene...ss. This year it hits close to home for the Vikes family, as former Men’s Soccer captain, Mackenzie Rigg, has been recently diagnosed with brain cancer (Astrocytoma grade IV). The Men’s and Women’s soccer team have taken on the challenge of running a relay at the end of November. Over the course of 3 days, the teams will collectively run 270km in support of Mackenzie and the 27 new diagnoses of brain tumours each day. We are fundraising for the Canadian Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada and all proceeds are going towards researching brain tumours, new treatment options and improving the quality of life for those affected. Help us spread the message, raise awareness and show support for Mackenzie during this new journey. Please share this on your story and donate to the link in our bio if you’re able, any amount helps! It would mean the world to Mackenzie and the countless others as they go through the treatment process. Let’s fight this thing together - Trinity #6, Logan #12, Will #7, Griffin #19

Here we have @tofcsoccer player @aaronnbrears putting in the work, and crushing a Landmine Lateral Squat. Aaron is a midfielder so is constantly changing direction, cutting, sprinting, etc. WHAT DO THEY WORK? They mainly target your gluteus mediusthe part of your butt that makes side-to-side movements possibleas well as your quads and adductors. But you're also recruiting your hamstrings and calves too. ... The landmine position helps Aaron learn the proper movement, as the arc of the bar naturally travels back, making it easier to sit back and stay upright at the bottom of the squat. He will eventually progress onto a lateral lunge for example. WHY DO WE DO THEM? Well no team sport, is truly linear in nature, and soccer is no exception. Think about it, a midfielder, like Aaron must avoid defenders by sprinting forward, quickly cutting from side to side and even moving backward when necessary. As a soccer player, he needs to improve his strength in these positions if he is going to perform at his maximum ability. This presents a problem for most traditional strength programs, which overuse muscles in certain positions. Squats, Deadlifts, Bench Press, Overhead Press, Pull-Ups, Power Cleans, etc., are all great exercises, but they are all straight up-and-down movements (in the transverse plane). They completely neglect the lateral movements required in most sports, especially soccer. This type of training limits your ability to produce force when moving in multiple directions and to make fast cuts to elude defenders. Also, when you are able to get into a position but cannot express any strength in that position, you're more likely to get injured. Put simply, if you're not developing the ability to get into good positions moving laterally and building the strength to move in and out of these positions, there's a gap in your training, one that can seriously hinder your performance on the pitch. Feel free to shoot me a DM with any questions, or come by the gym @okanaganpeakperformance to see how you can take your game to the next level! #nextlevel #soccerstrengthkelowna See more

Hey Okanagan youth athletes Do you have dreams of playing college sport but not sure which way to turn, or how to get there! Well I have managed to organise a zoom chat with a recruitment specialist, Coach Holly Ismail on WEDNESDAY 30th SEPT @ 7PM PST Coach Holly works for the @ncsa_sports who help youth athletes like you, from all over North America achieve their dream of playing college sport at all levels. She has also been a high school & college coach her...self, so knows what it takes to get there. I have found as an S&C coach here in Kelowna that some youth athletes, who have the talent, slip through the net. So I have teamed up with Coach Holly & the NCSA, to hopefully help reduce the chances of this happening. Coach Holly is going to go over... - Academics - The @ncaa Eligibility Centre - Covid-19 and it’s impact, and update on the new rules. - The role of the parents, coaches, guidance counsellor & friends - Timeline - Exposure - Highlight/Skills video - Finding the right fit - Social Media - What steps to take to be successful! Coach Holly will also cover @usportsca colleges too. Parents/coaches I recommend that you hop on the call too, as it’s important you know this information. After all it takes a village to raise a child. - African Proverb If you would like to be on this call or have any questions, then please send me a DM, and I’ll send you the link to sign up. Alternatively come by the gym @okanaganpeakperformance to see how you can take your game to the next level. #soccerstrengthkelowna #nextlevel

Hey youth soccer player, do you want to play in the World Cup, put on the maple leaf shirt, play in an Olympics or go pro? From the image above 4,000,000 kids start with the same dream as you, and it whittles down to 1 of 20 (women’s)/26 (mens) spots. In fact it’s worse than that, some of those players star on the team for their whole career, just look at Christine Sinclair. How bad do you want it, what are you prepared to do, or give up, to stand out from the crowd? ...Each step more sacrifices & commitments have to be made, more setbacks & obstacles that you have to overcome. Are you prepared to take sleep seriously, take control of your nutrition, miss a night out with your friends, work on your mindset, put in the extra work in the gym, or training hours on the pitch? Not sure where your time or investments are best applied, what direction to take? Then shoot me a DM, or stop by the gym @okanaganpeakperformance and we’ll figure it out together. Let’s take your game to the next level!#soccerstrengthkelowna #nextlevel See more
