Dr. Jeannine Carriere sees the strength and the power of kinship in Indigenous families and works hard to honour them each day. A Professor in the School of Soc...ial Work at the University of Victoria, her research has focused on Indigenous child and families, community-centered practices and the revitalization of Indigenous traditional family systems of care, especially in Métis families and communities. With a goal to nurture and pass on Indigenous knowledge, Jeannine also works hard to encourage students to pursue their own educational goals. Regarded by her students, colleagues and those who know her as compassionate and brilliant, Jeannine leaves all things better than how she found them. She is #wise. #EndViolenceWithRespect #SheIs #Métis

The School of Social Work acknowledges that it is Trans Awareness Week from Nov 16-20 and November 20th is Trans Day of Resilience, often also referred to as Trans Day of Remembrance, a day to remember those who have died as a result of anti-trans violence and other interlocking forms of violence, such as racism and colonialism. We celebrate the resilience and resistance of trans, non-binary, Two-Spirit and gender diverse people. Forward Together and The Audre Lorde Project c...ollaborated to share the beautiful art and poetry from BIPOC trans and nonbinary artists and they have also created a list of virtual online events celebrating the brilliance, beauty and resilience of trans and nonbinary people. https://tdor.co/ The research project, Trans PULSE Canada, has recently published this report about the health and wellbeing of racialized trans and non-binary people in Canada and you may be interested in reading it here: https://transpulsecanada.ca//report-health-and-well-being/
