Humans of Avanti - Memories shared in Italiese by those who left their home in Italy forever and made a new life in Canada "Dopo la brutta esperienza nella fredda Thunder Bay ci eravamo spostati a St.Catharines dove conoscevamo dei Paesanitrovammo lavoro alla farma ( fattoria) dove lavoravano tanti Italiani..Graziella ( la figlia) caveva 2 anni ma mica tenevamo lu daycare (asilo)..e allora stava con noi tutto il giorno mentre raccoglievamo le pesche. La povera freghina ...toccando i frutti se pizzicava sempre e anche se caveva lu patello, quando gli scappava non potevamo take lu break e piangeva sempre...erano 3 anni che avevamo lasciato lItalia e che non parlavo con mamma, papa e I miei fratellila nostra famiglia erano i tanti amici che stavano come noi..insieme giorno dopo giorno si andava Avanti e il sorriso non mancava mai After the not so positive experience in the cold Thunder Bay we moved to St.Catharines where we knew some paisanswe found work at la farma (farm) where other Italians workedGraziella ( the daughter) was two years old but we had no daycare!! So she stayed with us all day while we picked peaches and fruits, the poor freghina ( young girl) would get itchy by touching some of the surface of those peaches and even though she had a diaper anytime we had to be changed we couldnt just take a break and she would cry lotsit had been three years since we had left Italy and I still hadnt spoken to my mom, dad and siblings.our family was our many Italian friends facing the same challengestogether day after day we kept going and at times we even found time to smile too St.Catharines 1960
