Happy Monday my sjourn73 friends! Well it finally happened, the Christmas tree is complete! It took 2 weeks and an almost complete decoration overhaul, a couple of times over! This tree is almost completely MacKenzie-Childs decorations, thanks to my loving Floridian sister!... This picture is a comparison of this year (pic one) and last year. At first glance they look similar but when you zoom in they are much different. My entire home has touches of the black and white Courtly Check, therefor this tree is VERY fitting. In the past I’ve changed my tree almost every year but officially this is my forever Sapin de Nöel (with yearly additions of course)! Christmas is a very special time for me and my entire family. We lost our beloved mother shortly after Christmas many years ago. Then nearly three years ago I lost the love of my life, just over a month after our favorite day of the year. Chris’s favorite thing was watching me meticulously place every ornament just so on our tree. Then he would laugh as the tree never became perfect until Christmas Day. I was always moving things until I was completely happy. The year after Chris died I didn’t decorate. My son and I were on a plane Christmas Day to try and forget our loss. When we reached our destination at my Sister’s home in Florida it was decorated so beautifully, and filled with Christmas Spirit. Chris would have LOVED it. We will never leave our home undecorated for the holidays again. So this tree is to remember my kind, sweet mom who loved Christmas with her whole heart and to my Chris. Who filled my heart so full everyday of the year I thought it might burst. To remember our precious Christmas’s together, and the joy the holidays brought to our home and to each other. My word, another hot minute has past. I have no excuse for my time between posts except to say, Life is busy and I’m going to stop making promises I can’t keep! I will post when I can, and hopefully it will be about something that will enlighten you, or something that evokes a light in you to continue to follow sojourn73. Perhaps, to also tell all your friends about this quirky girl who likes to write about her life, her love for home, decor and everything beautiful.... Content can be tuff in a time where we aren’t doing as much as we normally would. We aren’t out finding things to peek creativity or challenge our minds eye. Hence why today you’re getting a shameless selfie of yours truly, on an exceptionally good hair day! Christmas is right around the corner, my most favorite time of the year! I have new decorations going on the tree this year. To say I’m excited is a gross understatement. I can barely stand myself! I ordered wooden stars from Crawford Creek Designs last year during Christmas that were featured in the @jillybox by Jillian Harris. I had to order them because I have yet to be awarded the chance to purchase a box in the lottery. Come one computer, pick me already!!I can’t wait to see her tree again this year as these stars were the inspiration behind this years look. I feel the decor in my home has a very feminine vibe along with my usual holiday tree. This year we are leaning more towards a metrosexual tree. That may sound funny but it’s true. A tree with a masculine vibe, yet being very comfortable with its girly tendencies. If that’s not enticing for a looky loo in the very near future, I don’t know what is. Usually I’m hard at it decorating my beauty the day after Halloween but this year I have to wait, TORTURE! But it’s for the best of reasons. My sister and niece are flying in from Florida this week and I have to wait for them to isolate for 14 days. Then the decorating party can begin. I don’t want to brag but last year I won my cities favorite Christmas tree contest. Could I make it two years in a row? Stay tuned. With new tree decorations and new outdoor lights, I’m excited the holidays are nearly upon us.

The power of minimalism. This is no longer for the smallest of spaces. I think that the impact of less, more authentically bought items makes a profound statement in in any size of space. Personally I’m stuck right in the middle. I don’t like the absence of color entirely but I love the effect of stark contrast. Very light with very dark. I’m done buying things, unless they really mean something. However, I for sure have an issue with plants. I love them! ... What ever your taste every space starts blank. Make your home a place to escape to, not escape from. Open, airy. No clutter. A place to breathe and reset. A place to call your home, whatever your dream looks like.
