Some people have the misconception that theyre due for a tax refund at the end of every year So naturally those individuals would expect a sum of money by the end of the year However, as employment changes, they may realize that this is not neccessarily true... In reality, every employer is different on how much income tax is charged on each pay cheque, so even if you are paying taxes on your pay, you may not be paying the right % The rule of thumb is, if youre paying less taxes than your marginal tax rate on your pay, you'll be owing, and if you're paying more taxes than your marginal tax rate, then you get a refund Essentially, if you're getting a refund, you're only getting the amount you overpaid during the year back This also doesn't take into account other tax deductible factors like medical expense, RRSP, donations, etc. At Solid Tax we try to offer as much general knowledge to Canadians as possible. Just a friendly reminder that if you log into your CRA account, there's a section to claim any uncashed cheques that may have been unclaimed in the past years! This may include: -GST Credits -Ontario Trillium Benefit... -Income tax refunds -Canada Child Benefit -CRA adjustments Usually when people move, their address may not be updated with CRA, and if you were not registered with direct deposit with the CRA, these cheques may have been sent to your previous residency. You can check this if you have a CRA My Account registered. However, I've had many clients call in to ask how to register for one, and the number one issue is not having their net income information readily available when asked to provide this information during the online registration. Additionally, you can check amounts owing, upcoming benefits payment (OTB, Canada Child Benefit, GST return , etc). Most importantly, you have access to all your notice assessments, so you can get approved for a mortgage! This is why it's extremely crucial to stay on top of your taxes! Solid Tax offers a competitive rate for filing taxes. Our base rate is $30+HST per person per year! The base price also includes a free consultation! Book your appointment using the link in the bio!
