Everyone (myself included) has thought about how maybe it’s natural selection- that these idiots who are gathering in large crowds with no protection are going ...to catch the virus and then we can all say I told you so But here’s what will really happen. This young healthy girl (who I obviously don’t know and didn’t photograph but am sharing as an example) caught the virus this day. She’ll walk around for two weeks living her freedoms while she spreads it to everyone she comes in contact with. She’ll never have symptoms, but her mother will be in pain for weeks, she’ll kill strangers she never knew and only passed, and she’ll lose friendships because of her blatant stupidity. Then, if somehow her symptoms do take a turn for the worse even though she’s not at risk, they’ll take her to the hospital. Where the loving healthcare workers will work tirelessly to treat her. They’ll get no chances to eat or even pee, they’ll have rashes from their masks and cracked bleeding hands while they care for her. And if she’s in danger of losing her life- they’ll take one look at her and be forced to decide that because she’s young and full of potential SHE get the ventilator instead of that 65 year old first time grandma. And that grandma will die with nothing but one nurse holding her hand. Then that nurse will go home and cry. And that nurse will not be able to hug her children or see her friends after another hard day. And that nurse will lay awake all night worrying that she’s passing it along to her family or that she may become sick. And then she’ll get up, sleepless, and do it again. I hope that I’m preaching to the choir. I hope that you don’t need to read this scenario because you already know it. Because if you can’t understand how your supposed liberty is not more important than the lives of others, then you’re too far gone from some kind of ethical, moral virus... and there’s nothing we can do for you anyway.
