The story of BIRRIA tacos.... These delicious and juicy tacos have been all over the internet lately, so here are a few fun facts about them : 1. Birria's origins are humble, the entire animal is consumed and its name is actually synonymous to scraps or waste #zerowaste ... 2. It was originally made with goat meat , and it's said that so many spices and condiments were added to disguise the odour 3. It is one of the most famous dishes to come out of Jalisco state, although it's also popular in Durango, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes and Michoacan 4. Nowadays there's Birria made with many types of meat, including chicken, beef, pork, fish and lamb 5. Even the preparation varies, Birria can be made in a BBQ pit, an oven or even a casserole! 6. Basically there are now thousands of ways to make Birria, what do they all have in common? They all involve long marinations of the meat and cooking the meat in its juices, resulting in a juicy meat dish with generous amounts of broth 7. When it's time to eat, you can expect a generous amount of meat & broth served on a corn tortilla OR it can also be served as a soup! 8. If you are going to be serving them as tacos, don't forget to add: red salsa, oregano, salt, chopped onion, cilantro and lime 9. From it's humble beginnings, Birria started appearing in restaurant menus in the 1950's, even fancy ones! 10. There's no official or original recipe, there's a bitter dispute on this topic. But for us, that just means more styles to taste and enjoy! What do you think? Do you have a favourite "Birrieria"? Do you have fun facts of your own to add? Please do!
